I saw that Oprah was doing "He's Just Not That Into You" today and recorded it. I took notes so y'all wouldn't have to buy the book.

The show started with the SATC scene from which the line originated. [Miranda says she had an OK date, couple kisses, invited the guy up but he had an early meeting. Girls think this is a good sign. Carrie's BF says "he's just not that into you. If we're into you, we're coming upstairs, we're booking the next date. There are no mixed messages."] This is apparently the theme of the book.

The show includes several women telling their stories [the fact that none of their friends seem to have hit them upside the head and told them to move on must illustrate the need for the book]. Example: Woman has been dating guy for ~year. They have great dates and hot sex and then she doesn't hear from him for 3-4 weeks, after which he text messages her to say he misses her. Can you say booty call? She excuses this b/c he's got a really important job and is so busy.

Basic advice from the guy author: Anytime you are making excuses for him, HJNTIY.

From a review I got the impression this was a guy bashing book, but the guy author said there is nothing wrong with the guy not wanting to get married, commit, make you his top priority, etc. but the woman has to either be cool with that or move on.

Besides the stories from women, there were a bunch of guys telling their stories and basically reinforcing that they use "busy" "not ready for a relationship" etc. as ways to avoid either a confrontation or hurting someone. [Apparently guys don't sit around dissecting everything women say so they don't need a similar book to figure out when a woman is just not that into them.]

Next post, I'll give you their HJNTIY Dating Standards. Bet you can't wait!

ETA: I forgot a comment by the woman author. She said there is no pain equal to the pain of longing for someone who isn't that into you. If you take out the waiting, hoping, longing & making excuses, then at worst you are left with "I like him, he doesn't like me, oh that's sad." I do wish I had learned that when I was 20.

There are "Dating Standards" in the book (or so Oprah says), the first of which is why RT's friends think it is like The Rules. Most of the rest are so obvious you wouldn't think it would take a book to learn them, but a few make me cringe over past foolishness.

Here they are for your amusement/education:

1. I will not go out with a man who hasn't asked me out first. [Shades of The Rules, but the guy author says that when a guy is into you, he'll ask.]

2. I will not go out with a man who keeps me waiting by the phone.

3. I will not go out with a man who isn't sure he wants to date me.

4. I will not go out with a man who makes me feel sexually undesirable. [Duh.]

5. I will not go out with a man who drinks or uses drugs to an extent it makes me feel uncomfortable.

6. I will not be with a man who is afraid to talk about our future.

7. I will not under any circumstances spend my precious time with a man who has already rejected me.

8. I will not date a man who is married.

9. I will not be with a man who is not clearly a good, kind, loving person.

At Least 5 Dead, 2 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting
Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, television station WCMH reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Rd.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, the station reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, according to police.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man apparently ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. At first, some members of the audience may have thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, WCMH reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. A bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed, according to witnesses. It was unclear who shot the alleged gunman.

Of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition, the station reported. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Chicago on Friday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

A Minneapolis man wandered naked through residential streets on the city's south side and fought with police before being bitten by a police dog in the "groin area" and subdued with the use of a Taser gun, officials said Wednesday.

Would people from any place other than Minnesota have handled this situation this way?*

On Wednesday, a neighbor, who asked to not be identified, said that when she encountered the man, he was clothed and ringing the doorbell.

"Where's Adam?" the man asked. "Where's Allah?"

She had no answers. But when he asked, "Where's Jesus?" the resident said softly, "He should be in your heart. Now you have to leave."

Recounting the exchange Wednesday, she said that she didn't feel threatened and that the man seemed normal and left without incident.
