Do these folks owe you money or something?

If they were smart enough to do this, they would have years ago, and your ancestors wouldn't have developed a taste for meat and chicken that they passed along to you. Horses and dogs figured out the game quicker, so we don't eat them.

Speaking of decent guys(?), here's Materazzi's take on what led up to the Zidanne headbutt:
"I did not provoke him, I responded verbally to a provocation," Materazzi told the daily Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday.
"We both spoke and I wasn't the first. I held his shirt but don't you think it is a provocation to say that 'if you want my shirt I will give it you afterwards'?
"I replied to Zidane that I would prefer his sister, that is true. I brought up his sister and that wasn't a nice thing, that is true," said Materazzi.
"Thankfully there are tens of footballers who could confirm that much worse things are said on the field," added the Inter Milan defender.

People don't eat horses and dogs and cats because they're cute. If kittens were delicious I would eat them every chance I got and never think twice about it. If they aren't endangered, you should be allowed to eat 'em.
It's not even like Chicago's bone-head ban on foie gras. At least they have a real (albeit stupid) reason.

I've eaten cattle that I've known personally, but there's no way in hell I could bring myself to eat an unknown dog. Horses I'm a little less sure about whether or not I could eat them. For me, I think it goes down to level of intelligence. I know someone who has trouble eating octopus because they're pretty smart animals.
I have heard arguments that a lot of horses end up in the slaughterhouses because their owners don't want to deal with them anymore. If a bill like that were to be considered, I think there would have to be serious thought on what happens to horses that are abandoned by their owners because they're too expensive or a pain in the ass or whatever.
I've also heard about assholes who get permits to round up some of the wild mustangs in Oklahoma under all sorts of promises that they'll take care of the horses who later turn around and sell them to slaughterhouses.

Cremation? What do they do with the dogs and cats?
And, you have made me remember the Animal Rescue (or whatever), filmed in the Houston area, that featured a horse (living) with a huge hole in its neck.

Once a dog or cat dies of natural causes, then you can eat it.

FYI, Cows are not very smart, if you wanted reciprocity, you should have let the cow know. Maybe remanuevered yourself into the 69 position to make it up more obvious to her...

A dog's got personality, and personality goes a long way? So do rabbits, and I would eat them.
