NYT:
  • Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and her advisers increasingly believe that, after a series of losses, she has been boxed into a must-win position in the Ohio and Texas primaries on March 4, and she has begun reassuring anxious donors and superdelegates that the nomination is not slipping away from her, aides said on Monday.

Mrs. Clinton held a buck-up-the-troops conference call on Monday with donors, superdelegates and other supporters; several said afterward that she had sounded tired and a little down, but determined about Ohio and Texas.

They also said that they had not been especially soothed, and that they believed she might be on a losing streak that could jeopardize her competitiveness in those states.

“She has to win both Ohio and Texas comfortably, or she’s out,” said one superdelegate who has endorsed Mrs. Clinton, and who spoke on condition of anonymity to share a candid assessment. “The campaign is starting to come to terms with that.” Campaign advisers, also speaking privately in order to speak plainly, confirmed this view.

Several Clinton superdelegates, whose votes could help decide the nomination, said Monday that they were wavering in the face of Mr. Obama’s momentum after victories in Washington State, Nebraska, Louisiana and Maine last weekend.

Some said that they, like the hundreds of uncommitted superdelegates still at stake, might ultimately “go with the flow,” in the words of one, and support the candidate who appears to show the most strength in the primaries to come.

Whoa.

Gattigap
Absent from this analysis is that Hillary has beaten Obama in virtually all of the very large, important Blue states (NY, CA, NJ, say MI and FL for the hell of it), but other than Illinois, Obama has won decisively in ""typical" Red States. The NYT is stretching themselves (go figure).

What is also interesting is that although the individual state results have not been close, the actual votes nationally and number of delegates are currently a lock.

VA is a key state, b/c not only is it large, but it could potentially swing Blue.

If you follow Slave's link, the local TV affiliate explains that Obama has just opened the Houston office and that those are a bunch of local volunteers, and that paid staff won't come in until later this week.

I assume that this is the reason her campaign manager was replaced this weekend.

ETA: I like McCain's response to that video much better.
my daughter, who is the demo the hil ad is after, liked it. actually she thought it dumb, but "better than any other Presidential ads."

oh, your video? it highlights that dems want no wars, even those that are necessary. your problem is that while ty can ban reminders of 9/11 and beslam here, he really has limited influence on commercial TV. or is hilama going to eliminate extremeism with the outflux of manufacturing jobs? anyone influenced by this commercial is now voting for McCain.

As you suggested earlier, one would hope the "paid" fellows would be a bit more savvy.

pardon me, but isn't the apparent honest and strong feelings of a volunteer more informative than anything the paid staff might do? was Che dead already when mcgovern ran? I don't rememeber che pix in his offices.

Those people don't even know who Che Guevera is. It's just a "neat" flag to them. Somebody probably bought it at a Rage Against the Machine concert.

The Houston office opened yesterday. I'll swing by tomorrow and rip the flag down myself.
You better get over there quickly, because apparently those morons have more than one on display

PS - this photo, with the Obama poster, the Obama shirt, the Obama button, the Obama photo, the Obama literature and the Obama card prominently displayed.

PPS - One [generally speaking] can only hope the person on the other end of that cellphone is screaming "You stupidmotherfuckingassclownfuckfacedouche, take those flags down!!!!!"

OK. Now I agree with you. One is a mistake, but it can be written off to some dumb college volunteer. To have two of them on different walls and possibly in different rooms shows that the whole office is pretty fucking stupid.

I wonder how Guevera would have been recalled if he weren't lucky enough to have that gifted facial structure and Hollywood hair.

That's the way the Rice University kids try to appeal to the Hispanic vote.

I understand McCain has popcorn poppers in his office in Western Virginia.

Gee, Ty, we're in agreement again.
When I had only heard it in English, I made no connection at all to anything, let alone agricultural labor or whatever. In Spanish, it sounded vaguely familiar, but still, no mental connection to farmworkers.

Sadly, not everyone is as well-educated as you are. So they don't get the connection. Plus, it's not like it's such an unusual combination of words, or a limited-to-agriculture-and-hispanicosity sentiment, that lots of other people could have come up with it on their very own. In a bazillion different languages.

ETA ah ha! I wikipedia-ed it and it sounds familiar in Spanish because it was chanted in the immigration reform rallies. Which association is, um, I think a little harder for McCain to slam -- no?

The story that was taken from makes clear that the only people in the office are a bunch of dumb volunteers. They just opened the office. The paid staff haven't gotten there yet.
