How exactly is this a dilemma? Someone wants your opinion, you give it. End of story. Can we end this stupidass thread now and go back to BB4? What are the websites on it? Anything going on?

I was so numb after work last night that I watched this from beginning to end, without moving from my chair, and I was actually very entertained. The hairdresser is so perfect for the show -- so Simonesque -- that I wonder whether she and the bachelorette (Lisa? How 1966.) were actually friends beforehand.

Did you see the ultimate fighting champion guy? Given Lisa's resemblance to Courtney Cox, I thought that was kind of funny (the Jon Favreau thing).

And the Postman was classic.

Because I listened to the day-game on the radio I didn't watch the replay last night and thus was flipping through channels before dropping in a DVD* and came across a show called "The Dating Experiment." Well, I don't normally watch reality shows (or any tv except sports and FoxNews) but does this show particularly suck in comparison to the others or are they all this bad?

*Will someone please tell me the point of Punch Drunk Love because I must have blinked and missed the part that explained why this film was made.

No Dilemma

Damn, people. Going to law school is not a guarantee for a life of miserable indentured servitude.

You choose to take whatever job you have and you choose to live a lifestyle that requires you to work a job you hate.

A law degree gives you options. You can bartend with a law degree. You can sell real estate with a law degree. You can slang drugs with a law degree. Your degree is not what's holding you back -- you are what's holding you back.

Had I pursued my graduate degree, my job options would be limited compared to the relative freedom I have with a law degree. Since receiving my degree, I have practiced law at a big firm and I have done other things. I get job offers I would never have gotten without a degree that connotes flexibility.

There are tens of millions of unhappily employed people, most of whom do not have the options you have.

I forgot to flip the channel when our TdF tape ended (tape, how 2001) and I saw part of this show. It's like an infomercial. Horrible production value, ugly people. I think I watched for 90 seconds in horror before finding the right remote.

It's not representative of good reality tv, but it is representative of ABC reality tv (excluding the Mole).

I had the misfortune of seeing Punch Drunk Love in the theater. We made the mistake of staying through the entire thing, becuse we kept thinking that it HAD to get better... something HAD to happen that would explain what we were watching. Discussions afterward revealed that everyone there thought it was one of the crappiest films we had ever seen. Since I saw that shortly after renting Mr Deeds, which also had no point, I have sworn off Adam Sandler movies.

The one thing that did come out of it, is that I no longer watch an entire movie to see if it's going to be ok. My Punch Drunk Love experience gave me the courage to not watch more than 20 minutes of The Good Girl.

Bush II says U.S. must "stay the course" in Iraq

Although it was a bit amusing to see how crushed that ugly guy was when the "more attractive than him but still not that great" girl left him a video at the end saying that she had such a good time that she didn't want to ruin it by seeing him again although as a consolation she told him that he was the kinda guy she wanted to marry and have kids with when she is ready for that sorta thing. He then had to try to keep his composure while saying how he wished her the best, blah, blah, blah. WTF? Call her a self-absorbed bitch and get it over with already.

Someone else will have to give you the full update. Since the software only works on a PC, I had to surrender my place at the table so the OM could work.

However, in the 30 minutes I was in the game, I lost about $1,000 at a low stakes table.

I felt the same way. I could not stop watching in hopes that something would happen to explain it all. My husband, who simply loves Adam Sandler and even made me sit and watch his first movie one time (some sort of story about a guy on a cruise), took a beating for this one. Let's hope that my selection for tonight, Gangs of New York, works out better. I hate it when the Braves play daytime ball and there is a dearth of good new releases at Blockbuster. Does anyone recommend Phone Booth or should I skip it?

Speaking of Poker

From today's paper:

"The New Card Shark"

. . . .

Many players hone their craft with simulation software that allows them to test strategies by playing out thousands or even millions of hands. Some researchers are building software opponents that use sophisticated concepts from economics and artificial intelligence to seek out the best strategy, then use the knowledge to beat human players. The experience of playing thousands of games in roadhouses and casinos is being eclipsed by a cyborg-like intelligence produced by humans weaned on machine play.

The changes in the nature of the game are both subtle and striking. The advantages of some well-understood strategies are being tuned, and others are being abandoned. Some online enthusiasts, for instance, are even suggesting that the value of any information gleaned from watching the opponent's body for telltale tics or gestures is overrated. These so-called tells are too easily manipulated. More information comes in the pattern of bets, raises and calls. The money, they say, talks.

Edited to remove reference to anything that might or might not be a sports spoiler. Don't read the article if you are watching whatever Coltrane is watching on ESPN2.

Euphemisms, Part Deux

Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Randall Simon was arrested for misdemeanor battery last night at Miller Park in Milwaukee for "hitting a costumed sausage" with a bat during the 7th Inning Sausage Race...

Facials

So who on the board indulges in facials? I have never had a professional facial, but I am considering one because this summer my skin is not displaying its usual flawlessness (I don't know why that is, because I am getting younger every day).

Anyway, I was always reluctant to go because I scar easily and I read this interview with Heather Locklear years ago where she said she doesn't do facials because she doesn't want scars (I'm guessing overzealous use of the comedone extractor or blackhead tool would be the culprit).

And I also read somewhere that your skin doesn't look good immediately, but looks really good in a week or so. I've got a special occasion in a few weeks and would like to glow.

Is any of this true? Please, debunk, recommend, spill.

The highlight for me was a 4 of a kind hand (9s). Actually there were several times that 3 of a kind were in the common cards...

I was up about $200 after 1 hour of play. Which was actually down from being up $1200 after about 10 minutes of play.
