polls and sizes (heh heh)

At risk of being late to the party:
Once Hugo Black = funny (though not accurate in my case)

Sizes - If Liv Tyler is 5'10", she's probably 135-140. No way 112 - that's more Heather Locklear territory.

I/R dating = back in the day (10-15 years ago) when I was dating cross-race (before meeting spouse bader), I researched this; at least then, the black man/white woman pairing was disproportionately higher than black woman/white man, but not as high as white man/asian woman. (Those of you who buy the "asian => gay" theory may draw your own conclusions about repressed homosexuality.)
Just did a very quick google search and found this:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/drharris/paa2000.pdf
(spree: long paper about interracial cohabitation/marriage. Didn't read all the way through, but it looked like it supported my recollection.)

Here is a link to the census data on interracial marriages from 1960 - 1992.

The earlier data appears to be from census data, whereas the data from the 1990's is from the Current Population Survey conducted by the Bureau of the Census.

The data confirms my suspicions. Starting in the 1970's, black man-white woman marriages outnumbered white man-black woman marriages 2 to 1. Asian woman-white man marriages outnumbered white women-asian man marriages 2 to 1.

Census Data On Interracial Marriages

I would like to see the data for all couples, not just married couples. If anyone has a source for that data, please post a link.

Not to deprive further attention...

from the greatest ongoing sock hoax in history, but...

...apropos of absolutely nothing...

My god!!! Say what you will about "created" musical groups - but a duo of overtly sexual Russian, nymphette, schoolgirl chanteuses is nothing but pure and simple marketing genius. Deviant and brilliant. God, I wish I thought of it.

Even worse - it's drecky bubblegum techno-pop that is catchy as hell. Expect it to go to #1 once the war gets God, Mom, the Flag and Apple Pie off the TV set.

Here's link to the Mtv banned music video:

Why is this so important to you?

Here is a link someone sent me from a recent salon.com article:

"In 1998, black-white couples in which the wife is black made up 37 percent of all black-white marriages nationwide, up from only 22 percent in 1980."

It's very hard to compare census data from census year to census year, because they keep on changing the definitions. Also, the form and the definitions within the form changes every single census year, so the data is only really applicable within the census period, and not for comparison with other years. Up until recently, if the respondent didn't put in an answer for "race" then the census taker put down what he or she thought was the proper answer, based on looking at the person. From census year to census year, you could have someone changing back and forth between races four or five times in the course of a lifetime.

It depends on when you are talking about. At one time, Liv was thin. Lately, she has porked out.

She was easily 160 in this photo:

That paper supports my observations. Thanks for the link, darth.

The disparity between the black-white interracial couples that I noted is even greater in the cohabitating couples compared to married couples. Interestingly, the disparity is less in cohabitating asian-white couples according to this study.

EvenOdds - seems like the group you queried wasn't a statistically significant sample.

Shit I used to steal, I mean, watch on TV

Here's my non-laminated list

The Brak Show
Amazing Race
Mole (I know neither of these two are currently on air)
Survivor
Any NFL game
Any NHL playoff game
Law & Order
Law & Order SVU
Law & Order CI
Trading Spaces (though putting it on Seasons Pass was a mistake, because it's on so much)
Iron Chef
Degrassi - TNG.
Real World, usually

Changing programs, one channel at a time? Naw, I think "Changing Pants" is funnier.

Wasn't the original question about dating? Not cohabitating, not marriage, but dating? You responded her her answer with the wrong data. Those math grades didn't really translate well in your research methodology classes did they?

EvenOdds didn't say her sample was statistically significant, and she even posted an article suggesting the contrary.

It isn't important to me, but by your reaction to it, you seem touchy about the subject.

I simply noted how this chat board appears to be a microcosm of the rest of the country in terms of interracial couples. I find that an interesting observation. I just noted it and asked others what their perception was.

Then you got all defensive and started citing non-statistically significant samples to try to say my observations aren't valid. You need to ask yourself why this makes you so defensive.

I think the fact that the disparity may be closing is an interesting observation, too. However, I agree with the poster who said that there may be problems trying to compare one set of census data to another set, given the changes in the census survey.

Anyhow, I find it more interesting than the rapist wannabe's post about Russian nymphet pop stars. Don't let my erudite posts get in the way of you chatting about that.

No. It was about couples in general. Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, either, eh? I would be interested in looking at data on dating couples (as opposed to cohabiting or married couples), too. Please, if you have a link, post it. All I was able to find in my quick Google search was married census data. Then darth sent me the link with married and cohabitating data. If someone has the link on dating couples, please post it.

Here is the quote of what I said:
Quote:
I have noted that several white female posters here date, have dated, or are married to black men. Yet, I don't recall a single white male poster who has said that they date, have dated, or are married to a black woman.

Why are the overwhelming majority of black-white interracial couples in the US black men-white women couples? Why do I rarely see white men-black women couples?

I sincerely doubt that either you or EvenOdds understand what the concept of statistical significance is. EvenOdds clearly attacked my observation as a misperception caused by some bias of mine and used nothing more than antecdotal evidence to base her attack. I then stomped all over her with facts and logic. heh-heh.

Ah yes, the fake lesbians. They amuse me very much. I probably should be offended, but I can't seem to be.

And their music is infectious.
