what is it like to ride one out? I knew someone who was in a building and a tornado took out the building next door. Said it sounded like a train passing by, by only for a few moments.

Hurricanes last hours, right? Do you lose power immediately? How loud is it?

So you scalp tickets and exploit hurricane victims? Or are you referring to general arbitrage opportunities, like those kids who buy boxes of M&M's and then sell them individually on the street for 2x as much to raise money for their "baseball team"?

I think it would be incredible to be in the eye of a hurricane.

Calm but surrounded by chaos.

Are they still using that one in Chicago? We've moved on to hearing about how they're selling money "to stay out of trouble and put a little money in my pocket."

Depending on how well they're doing that day, the inflection in their voices conveys either (i) a kid hustling to make a few dollars because he couldn't find a summer job or (ii) someone who is about half a step from smashing motherfuckers over the head with a brick and taking whatever they got and keeping the candy for later.

Welcome back, Fugee.

I look forward to reading delarations of your loooooooove for Less, baking tips, and point/counterpoint with TM.

Speaking of TM, you all may recall that he made a comment about Monica Potter's ass size the other day. While watching a TIVOed Boston Legal last night, I saw William Shatner ask her if her sexual harassment complaint against him was a chubby girl's cry for attention and that he liked chubby sex.

AoN, I think she's pregnant. They only showed her sitting at a desk.

With the exception of losing a good portion of my roof tiles and having the large ficus tree in front of my house land on my garage, the Brazenette and I came through Wilma relatively unbattered. There's still much to clean up but I am incredibly lucky that my power was restored yesterday. My high speed internet connection is not working at the moment, so I am having to use a dial-up connection which means no access to IM at the moment.

I will confess that of the 7 or so hurricanes I've ridden out, this was the only one that scared me. I'd prefer to never again hear some of the sounds I heard (like my neighbor's satellite dish smashing into my living room window... thank goodness for hurricane shutters) and I never hope to see my driveway flooded all the way to the garage again. Mostly, I'd like never to have a discussion about the availability of ice and gasoline with anyone ever again...

Still, I am incredibly lucky. I will not make the deductible on my hurricane policy and that is something to celebrate.

(And there's still like 25 days left in hurricane season. *Sigh*)
Who's going to hate poor minorities on the internet until you're back online full time?

Never mind, I forgot that we still have Penske.

I mostly encounter the candy-sellers in my car, so there doesn't seem to be as much risk.

There is a big rise lately in the number of white, Christian kids in nice clothes saying that they're going to church camp with the money they raise, but they all seem to have Eastern European accents. They're much more annoying than the traditional candy sellers (in my neighborhood, usually young latinos who recognize me and are pretty cool about everything, especially because I will buy an occasional bag of peanut M&Ms when I'm hungry for them) because they don't want to take no for an answer and stand there trying to convince you that God wants you to buy these M&Ms.

The candy sellers are better than the creepy, disgusting homeless people with various maladies, injuries and growths, but worse than the summer bottled water sellers, who actually provide a much-desired (at least by me) service.

I heard that Penske's sperm are a little sluggish these days. That they are living in the past and all that.
