Legal music downloads? (And new music)

I checked to see they are coming out the 29th. If you register now they'll give you 5 free tracks. They charge .99/song 9.95/album.

Wait until Thursday, when many are expecting Apple to release iTunes for Windows (or whatever they'll call it). If it's not released then, the expectation still is sometime before the end of the month.

Thanks for the tips. If iTunes is coming out on Thursday, that might be the way to go. As much as I liked Napster, I wonder if they'll offer access to the most current releases.
And on a different note, has anyone heard Jet's song Are You Gonna Be My Girl? That song rocks.

Two questions about a church service experience

At the end of the service everyone hugged each other and wished each other peace, and they came to hug me and wish me peace as well. (I guess they are huggy and peaceful.) Anyway, the organist came down off the stage to introduce himself and hug me, and he asked me if I was a Jewess girl. I know he didn't say Jewish, it was clearly Jewess.
Leaving aside he called me a girl, isn't calling me a Jewess odd? I have never been called a Jewess before. And also wouldn't calling me a Jewess girl be redundant? He didn't seem to mean to be insulting, I would be surprised if he did since it is a very accepting ministry. So much so the minister told me I could actually have communion.
Basically she said that anyone of any faith who was searching for God or some such was welcome. She was clearly speaking to me when she said it. I politely declined by not going up, and she didn't force the issue, I didn't feel any pressure or anything. But how could it possibly be ok for a Jewish person to partake of Communion? Wouldn't a pre-requisite be accepting Jesus as your savior?
Is this unusual?

I still don't understand exactly what a Jewess is. I've had a few Jewish friends define it, but the definitions were different. At this point, I can't tell if its slang or an accepted term or derogatory or positive. I hear it most used by Jews to define classically Jewish stereotypical women, like "Oh, my mom is such a syandard Jewess."
Asking a Jew to take communion is silly. The folks running the service clearly didn't know what to do and were misguidedly trying to be polite. Its sorts like when I'm at a Jewish wedding or funeral and they ask me to wear the yarmulka... I always politely decline out of respect.

Check out "Going in the Right Direction," which he used to open his ACL set. And speaking of ACL, any word yet on what will be featured on the live cd?

This is a little odd in that even the most liberal churches usually reserve such ecumenical behaviors for fellow christians. It is official doctrine of the Methodist church, for example, that people of all faiths are welcome to communion, but by that they mean all christian faiths. Not that they wouldn't accept a non-christian, but I think a lot of people in the church would consider it irresponsible of a minister to administer communion to a non-christian without first having a discusion with that person about what it all means. Of course, other churches have spontanious savings in which strangers come to Christ in the middle of a service, so YMMV. And I've certainly been to Methodist services where statements like those you mention have been made, with all sincerity.

As an aside it was a wonderful service, I found it to be most enlightening and the people were wonderful. After all of my negative experiences with Christianity over the past few years I'm very much enjoying seeing a more positive side.
|
Having grown up in such a church (but no longer active), I am glad you got to see a more positive face of Christianity. Some of it is not so bad.
Editted b/c I can't spell ecumenical

Edited to say silver dollars? You bounce silver dollars off women?

This, Leagl, is the evolutionary difference between men and women. When I saw those pictures of Britney that Chef posted, a primordial urge kicked in... Appreciating Britney's body cannot be separated from wanting to experience it firsthand in the male mind.
I might as well bounce silver dollars off her... its not like she and I would play chess post-coitus...

Uh, it's a bit different than communion. Wearing a yarmulke in a synagogue (or at any Jewish service) is not limited to MOT. It's a sign of respect for god (in whatever sense) and a place/time of worship. Sort of like not wearing shorts/miniskirts into cathedrals in Europe, regardless of religion (or lack thereof). Declining to wear one is likely to be taken as a sign of disrespect.
Communion is specific to a given faith and is appropriately taken only by those of the faith.

It's still not scheduled out until Spring. I have no idea if they've decided what to include. I am sure RRFB will be on there. I just hope they'll be skipping Polyphonic Spree.
You can pre-order here http://www.goemerchant7.com/index.cg...temNumber=0030

I don't know if it is a man/woman thing or a Sebbie/Leagl thing. But either way, it's all good. I've sat here wracking my brain when y'all do those laminated crush list things, and I never can come up with anyone famous I'd want to have sex with.
Thanks for the Church comments. No one else seemed to think it was odd she asked me (at the service) so I am guessing it is something they do, but no, she didn't discuss it with me beforehand. Oh well, I think I handled it fine and I won't be so surprised next time. If they can accept me knowing I don't accept Jesus as my savior, and they seem to be able to do that, and I can accept that they do see him as so, which I can, we'll be just fine.

Well, I guess you could see it that way. I don't wear the yarmulka because the way I see it, its a Jewish tradition, and while I'm glad to be there, I'm not part of that unique tradition and my assuming the trappings of the tradition sorta cheapens the significance of the trappings. That said, I have been at Conservative/almost-orthodox services where people told me I had to wear the yarmulka, so I did.

I would guess that the same people who would call someone a "Jewess"--not in itself disrespectful but just not used much since, oh, around the Renaissance--are the same ones who have never actually met a Jew, honestly believe we killed Jesus, and are convinced that Jesus converted. As to communion--that's just surprising that they asked you. It's a uniquely Christian view about transubstantion--that the wafer/wine are thereby transformed into the actual body/blood of Christ--usually forbidden to the unbaptized and often even to excommunicated Christian 'sinners' like divorcees. In other words, usually requires belief and belonging to that faith.

Curse you for bringing this up!
I remember a blonde Scandanavian centerfold from the early 70's most fondly. I remember her name was Liv something, and her pictures were among the early shots showing pubes. She was a um...seminal experience in my life.
So I googled to find her name, and found a page with her current photo, which ruined my memories. Maybe she looks good for 58, but my memory was not of a 58 year old.
spree: 58 year old women standing in foreground, naked picture behind her.

FYI Liv Lindemann POTY '72 (the original meaning of POTY, not the local one)

The 70s were the best years. No airbrushing. As to the pubes, they were a bit too bushy in the 70s, but it beats the stupid mini-bushes chicks sported in the 80s (either grow it or shave it, but make up your mind).
Aside from Playboy, I just wish I'd grown up in the 70s. I have uncles who were 18-27 through the heart of the 70s and to this day they say the 70s was 'the' decade. We really got dicked over in the 80s. AIDS, Reagan, etc... I want a do over so I can get my freak on in the age of easy sex, afros, Frampton, etc...
