J.C. Watts is no one's enemy. He is, however, a rarity. Not because he's the only black republican; he's just the only one who has not yet been nominated to the federal bench.

Y'know, I really thought the use of an oreo was meant to designate that the guy was really into sugary junk foods. Honest to god.
I am unfit to post on this board.
Edited to fix typo.

Active/reserve thoughts?
Interesting tidbit I just heard regarding the Pentagon's new Iraq plans. Apparently, lots of other troops are being called up next year for *other* duties, kinda like after 9/11 when people were sent to Europe to guard bases and installations so active duty troops could train.
Anyway, the part I heard was that one particular infantry unit in, e.g., Illinois, is getting called up for the 3rd full-year rotation in 4 years. Saudi, Germany and now (drum roll)....
Afghanistan.
Strangely enough, some people are reportedly looking forward to Afghanistan cuz they'd hate to die thinking everywhere is as miserable as Saudi.
On other, related notes...
It appears the U.S. military really is pulling almost entirely out of Western Europe.
It appears the U.S. military really is stretched pretty thin these days, so maybe they need to pay more.
And people are a bit antsy about Iraq duty, though not necessarily antsy-like-fear.
Hello

I am really concerned that the Administration is going to feel the political heat in an election year and is going to try to reduce the commitment to Iraq and then withdraw instead of staying the course and getting the job done right. (So far they're not getting the job done right, from what I can tell, but that's a different story.) We only make things worse for ourselves in the long run if we screw this up.

Senate Dems should be investigated

harkening back to yesterday's post where I tried to educate the more moderate Dems of the failure of their party, here is an example of what Zell was talking about. to Ty, the moderate Dems are like Berkley profs, or maybe Peter Thottam, When Ty thinks "extreme left" he sees SLA. so what Zell says is to be ignored, because it doesn't play in the extreme westernmost part of Calif, and NYC.
I say, yes ignore what Miller told you. Continue along the path you have been taking. You barely lost in 2000, and the mid terms? FLUKE. no need to reevaluate direction. Carry on!

To call this investigation "treasonous" but to have no words for the way this Administration politicized intelligence and foreign policy is absolutely obtuse.

I'm going to have to logoff and go to dictionary.com then think this part through before I can respond.

I think what happened to Cleland was part of his point, but whatever.

I'm sorry, but a Democrat who has already endorsed Bush in next year's election is not in the moderate mainstream of the party.

Arnie and AG in snit over "privilege" in groping investigation.
Remarks anger Schwarzenegger
California attorney general suggests probe of governor-elect
Quote:
Rob Stutzman, a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said those statements violated attorney-client privilege and had forced Schwarzenegger to reconsider whether he would provide any information to Lockyer.
* * *
Stutzman said Schwarzenegger was “extremely disappointed” in Lockyer’s remarks.
“There was disappointment here on this end, that the attorney general would present himself to the governor-elect as his lawyer, engage him in discussion on this matter and make those dissuasions public,” Stutzman said.
|
Either this cat is a "I'll say anything" PR hack or he's too stupid to live. What moron thinks the state's highest law enforcement official is actually the personal attorney not only of the governor, but also --- simultaneously, one presumes --- of the governor-elect?
Edited to change "guy" to "cat." (Hi, Fringey!)

I wonder if the disappointment caused Arnold to flash back to when his come-ons didn't go the way he'd hoped?

Ya know, I love Minnie Driver to death, but couldn't she find a nice American sweatshop to highlight? Or maybe she could play a migrant seasonal agricultural worker in, e.g., Michican?
Why would she think these other countries want their jobs criticized? I mean, next thing you know some Cambodian guy is gonna come over here to highlight my slave conditions or something.

quick, ask John Kerry a question online
at washingtonpost.com in the next few minutes. What should I ask him? What should I ask him?
Fuck, I'm so nervous that my brain is frozen. Someone give me a question!
And no, not "why should America ever elect another pinko from MA to a national office again after Kennedy almost got us all killed", I already thought of it and threw it out.

I asked just what I suggested Democrats should ask, though I don't think he will answer it. Specifically, if he believes it causes long term harm when individual candidates pit democratic constituencies directly against each other in, e.g., a debate.
