Vernor's is the only ginger drink that matters- does it still have ginger?
Vernor's trivia:
- A nineteen-year-old James Vernor began experimenting with his own ginger ale recipe. However, like many young men his age, during 1862 in Detroit, he put his plans on hold and enlisted as a Union soldier with the Fourth Michigan Cavalry. Before leaving for war though, James placed his experimental ginger ale extract into an old oak cask. At the end of the Civil War, James would return home and open a drug store of his own at 235 Woodward. Another thing that James opened was that old oak cask. To his surprise, the four years of aging blended a select group of secret ingredients to perfection.

I found that too. Not sure what "natural flavoring" means either. Were we all given ginger ale for upset stomachs as children under false pretenses?

I was frequently given Coca-Cola with the bubbles stirred out, no ice. I keep regular (not diet) ginger ale in the house for when I'm sick -- even if it's not actually helpful, it has a strong placebo effect or whatever.
ETA who's sick? you or sequels?

There was a prescription bottle of "coca cola syrup" in our fridge growing up, purportedly for upset stomachs, although I don't recall ever taking it. We always got ginger ale.

No one is sick. I just can't believe I've been fooled for so long. I feel like B.F. Skinner's daughter. How can that placebo effect be...effective when you're 3? B/c mommy says it will make you feel better?

Just plain warm water with sugar in it will settle a stomach. So ginger ale with no ginger is basically the same thing (except not warm).

Ginger's pretty zingy, so I'm okay with the use of zing here.

I thought that was meant as a compliment - a testament to your virility.
(Not, say, a comment on how Shape Shifter might feel if he woke up next to you in the morning.
P.S. Ginger lemonade has zing.

I was told that it's the carbonation. I got a lot of Sprite when I was sick. But my illnesses usually involved a very high fever.
And when I have a hangover. Sprite is excellent for hangovers.

Actually, no one is sick RIGHT NOW. I was deathly hung over yesterday, and, as I've mentioned before, I can't throw up. Ever. I'm working on a Seinfeld-like run of not throwing up. So, instead, I feel nauseated for 6 straight hours. I need to either: (1) stop drinking like a frat kid, or (2) find a semi-cure. I can handle the headaches/general aches and pains from hangovers, but I'd rather (honestly) be kicked in the groin then go through that again...I'm apparently too stupid to think about the effects of drinking beer, wine, champagne and vodka all in the same night.

Do you have that saved somewhere to cut and paste in* or do you do the codes each time for it?

You were supposed to refrigerate that snake oil? We had it in the pantry at room temp and it was often doled out in all of its sweet oily viscuosness for upset stomachs. Maybe folk memory recalled the days when it actually had the active ingredient in it -- I'm sure the early version of it relieved all sorts of nervous conditions. But placebo or not I still find coca-cola useful as a hangover remedy and/or when I can't keep anything else down.
