I don't think any of my male HS friends were having sex either. Well, one of them used to go to Vermont to visit his dad in the summers and he might have up there. He was pretty hot. Note, though, that I limited my claims to people I was actually friends with -- i.e., close enough to that they would have told me. I know one was because I was going to go with her to get her first pack of bcps, but something came up and I couldn't go. I think maybe the guy she was dating had had sex before her, but I barely knew him. He and I were not friends.

Perhaps I am naive. Actually this is extremely likely. eta as I think you may know.

Later seasons saw the addition of other characters. Roz Kelly was first brought in as Pinky Tuscadero slated to be Fonzie's long term girlfriend. Commercials for the subsequent season even began promoting Kelly's new character, but when discord occurred between her and the cast and producers, her character was dropped; it was only mentioned briefly in two subsequent episodes, one where her sister Leather Tuscadero came into town to start a fresh life from reform school, and when Fonzie was out of town at a demolition derby with Pinky. Another character, Bill "Sticks" Downey, played by John-Anthony Bailey (a.k.a. Jack Baker), was also supposed to be added to the cast as a new member of Richie's band, on drums, and the gang at Arnold's but the character never caught on and only stayed for a few episodes. He went on to a career in pornographic movies and later died from complications due to HIV.

I think that it is safe to assume that any person who had a boy/girlfriend for more than 3-4 months in high school was having sex. Unless they specifically told you they were not and you have reason to believe them. That is sort of the way teenage hormones work.

Of course others were having random drunk hook-up sex (a kind, as Coltrane points out, that is even less likely to be disclosed to friends by the girls having that sex), but the boyfriend/girlfriend thing is a minimum baseline.

I had sex in high school, and I'm not sure that I ever talked to any of my friends about the fact that I was having sex. I certainly never talked about it with any friends who I did not think were having sex. I'm sure some assumed that I was and some were naive.
