Yeah, me neither.
No, but I once wondered whether the world would end in fire, or in ice.

True story.

I started college as a theater major. On the first day of class, we sat in a giant circle and repeated that poem as the teacher intoned it to us.

We all cried.

Looking back on it, we were a bunch of pretentious, ridiculous assholes.

Not exactly, but I was thinking the other night about how one event can change your life in a way that you can't possibly even understand on later reflection. I think that sentence likely made no sense. Sorry about that.

I was thinking about how I can't even imagine how different my life would have been had my dad not died almost 20 years ago (anniversary coming up in a few months - I'm already past the point where I've been alive longer since his death than I was while he was alive). Impossible to know in exactly what ways, of course, but I know it would have been different.

And you were probably going for something a bit lighter there. Sorry.

I am wearing my birdseed shirt today though.

I still kick myself over not sending in that peace corps application at the same time I sent in my law school applications.

But I love my life. I have good friends, live in a great city, have an awesome house, don't hate my job (though I'm not all that inspired by it), have a lot of spare time to pursue my interests in art, writing, social and community work, my dogs love me, most of my family is nearby, and I can generally do what I want.

And I don't think there's an age limit on the peace corps.

i am happy with what I have done, but I do get wistful about one thing............I wish that flower had taken a different path. I wonder, if flower had gone to itamae school and learned to make sushi, wouldn't that be wonderful? there would be one topic upon which he could post here where he actually knew something and wasn't completely full of shit.

Or maybe, just maybe, he'd be working a sushi bar somewhere and not ne able to post at all.

I wasn't going for something lighter, really. Burger was close, but not my high school flame -- running into him would be disturbing, as he's dead.

When I was in college, I planned on bombing through and going straight to law school. And bomb I did. Didn't set the world on fire, big shock, I know. Then, life happens I married, put grad school off.

Now when I see all these reports coming out of the Wall St. Journal about how hard it is for someone just coming out from a lower tier school, if they aren't at the top of their class, I am glad I am not on the hook for more loans than I already am. because you know I'd barely scrape into a low tier school at night and not be at the top of my class.

I just think that would crush my soul to be a temp with a back breaking amount of loans.

so really it became crystal clear that everything happens the way it is supposed to. my sig line is true.

My neighbors, who are 62 and 65, went to Samoa with the Peace Corp this summer and will be there for 2 years. He's going to be working with them on business development and NGO grant applications. I'm not sure what she's doing but they figured she would be working with the women's council.

Sometimes I wonder how my life would be different if, instead of taking either path, I just ran off the road like a crazed idiot, running recklessly into the underbrush with no aim or reason. Then I saw how Sebastian turned out, and have no regrets.

Have you recently added Sliding Doors to your Netflix queue?
