ETA: damnit, the Robert Randolph / Death Cab for Cutie conflict bugs me. Bye Death Cab... Fortunately, I think they're the only Lollapalooza overlap.

Franz Ferdinand will have to be sacrificed for Wilco.
There are certain bands that, no matter how talented or creative, I will never be able to listen to because of their horrible judgment in picking a band name. Death Cab For Cutie is one of those bands. Less Than Jake is another. In a similar vein, I hate the name Better Than Ezra.

By happy coincidence, all those bands suck.

I loved the name Less Than Jake and really wanted to like them, but they do suck really hard. I expect I'll die never having heard Death Cab and I'm okay with that. I'm afraid I have heard Better than Ezra on the Radio w/o realizing it.

I feel that My Chemical Romance is a wonderful name for a band, and while a bit pop they are listenable. My high school band was called Swing to the Left; the name was the best aspect.

Bad band names and stupid sports injuries

Me, Mom & Morgentaller is a really bad band name. The Morgantaller in question was a famous Montreal abortion doctor.

Speaking of Canada, the Blue Jays' second baseman Orlando (O-Dog) Hudson pulled a hammy last night. How, you may ask? Rounding the bases after a home run. Douche bag.

Speaking of home runs, I saw a screening of the new Bad News Bears. It's really very funny in many places. The main criticism of it will surely be that the little girl doesn't quite have the acting chops of Tatum O'Neal. If you can get beyond that, it's actually really great. Billy Bob Thortnton strikes a perfect balance, and most importantly to me, the baseball stuff was really well done. They shot all the action scenes full-on, so you can tell it's not visual effects or tricky editing.

The fat kid hits a home run at one point, and in a brilliant little touch, he tugs at his batting gloves while watching it leave the park. Richard Linklater is a real baseball fan (and former player at UT), so he knows his shit. Give it a chance.

Michelle Ma Belle

For those of you who like this sort of thing, Michelle Wie is playing in a PGA event starting tomorrow. I'd bet she makes the cut in this one; it's a really weak field.

ETA: I just did. At +370. $200 big ones. Cmon Michelle!!!

Richard Linklater is doing Bad News Bears remake. They're thinking about doing Confederacy of Dunces and have tapped Will Farrell for Ignacious.

When you're having drinks with your collegues and getting "honest", can you take a step back from the projectiuons and see how fucked up this all is?

I've never read Confederacy of Dunces, so can't comment.

I'm not sure what's supposed to be so sacrosanct about the original Bad News Bears. Believe me, there's plenty of awful decisions, but this one's pretty good.

Linklater- you know 1st film one of the 10 best movies ever made, then dazed and confused which gives SS material to pretend he had a social life in HS- he's remaking Bad News Bears.

Here's a pitch.....remake Godfather with Ashton as Michael and Phil from Bam as Vito?

Somehow this seems appropriate for someone who also posts over at politics:

The question is now, will anybody give a shit?

I suppose that is fair to ask of the hockey fans on the board. What will it take to get you interested again, or do they merely have to start playing, and all will be forgiven?

Thank you for the Death Cab three thumbs down. I like most of the new music. Everyone gushes "Then you must love Death Cab." I listened to Death Cab. They are awful, god fucking awful. Modest Mouse Light (and thats not to suggest Modest Mouse Regular is good...).
