There'll never be another kids' movie like that again. Nowadays, they'd act like having an alcoholic Little League coach would be a *bad* thing.

Am I right that no one mentioned Fantasia in the best kids-movies-for-adults survey?
Fantasia. Hands down.
Wizard of Oz does, however, feature more useful lines than any other kids' movie (Are you a good witch, or a bad witch? The best place to start is the beginning. Ding, dong, the witch is dead! I'll get you my pretty! Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas any more! -- and that's just the one-liners in Munchkinland).

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins -- neither my stomach nor my intellect have been able to suffer through the entire film with these two so I am unable to put it on either a best or a worst list and must refrain from judging it until I m finally forced to sit through it in its entirety a la Alex in "A Clockwork Orange."
And Major League was fucking funny. "Hey Jake, how's your wife and my kids?" good stuff.

The most boring day here ever
I plan to watch Average Jew tonight but have never watched it in its entirety. Can someone sum up what happened in the last two(?) episodes? anything really funny?

I vote for "Slapshot", though "Bryan's Song" always makes me sob like a two-year-old.

How 'bout Hoop Dreams?
Edited to add, or, to combine the last two movie polls, Bend it Like Beckham.

I tend to agree with the re: line. I haven't watched this show, so I have no answer for you. I am already set to Tivo The Simple Life though. And here is some scoop from realityblurred:
In an attempt to not "embarrass her parents" (uh huh), Paris Hilton had FOX cut a scene from The Simple Life, an "insider" tells Page Six. The "insider" says that "Paris and Nicole [Richie] were in the local bar in Altus [Arkansas, where the show was taped] and they got a little wild with some of the local guys."

I am vaguely aware that they have been growing more tolerable in recent years (starting, perhaps, with Babe), but I'm somewhat curious as to why - why, after years of "G" ratings, even PG ratings, meaning unwatchable crap, why improve now? I am also reminded of my mother's tale of going to her first movie - Bambi. I think she was 4 or 5. She was perfectly horrified, and, when Bambi's mother got shot, she wouldn't cry, because she thought that movies were about being happy and she didn't understand. She was pretty traumatized by the whole thing, actually.
Anyhow, random poll, which I am sure some of the parents here will find edifying and useful:
What is your favorite "kids" movie generally enjoyable by adults?
Chicken Run, but it is a near thing with Babe (I), which was really deliciously evil.
|
I still haven't seen Bambi, because my mother had a traumatic experience with it when she was five or so and she had to be escorted from the theater.
My favorite Disney movies are (sort of in order) The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, Robin Hood, and Sleeping Beauty. I have not had any interest in seeing a Disney animated movie since Mulan.
My favorite Pixar movies are (also in sort of order) A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Monster's Inc., and Toy Story 2.
I liked the first Harry Potter better than the second. I'm still undecided on Shrek, though I own it on DVD. I'm just not sure that it will stand the test of time. I liked the first Spy Kids movie, but I haven't seen the rest of the franchise. Babe is on my all time favorite movie list ("Rules? This is bigger than rules!") and I think it was as good as, if not better than, Braveheart, which beat it out for best Oscar. I never saw the Stuart Little movies, but I heard they were good.

Tin Cup. With two acting powerhouses like Kevin Costner and Don Johnson, how could it lose?
