Just the chimps who were raised in the rural South. The rest of us drink tea with pinkies bent ever so slightly.

ok. I've been running with a shuffle. ohmygawdIdidn'tthinki'dlikeit but I really really do. But I want to have some songs play more frequently than others. sometimes people say a song is "in heavy rotation." how do you do that? put a few copies of it in the mix?

I think they use that as an expression of hipster DJ cool. You can change the sync settings in iTunes to bias towards highly rated songs, which may accomplish what you want. But I believe short of that, the shuffle will go through your entire playlist before repeating a song. So you'd have to force it by having multiple copies of the song in your playlist.

I forced. But on shuffle it will play some songs twice before it plays others at all. It seems to be pseudo-random somehow.

Eva Silverstein would tell you that that is true random. Kind of like if you roll a die, you won't get all the numbers once before one pops up again.
That said, I thought that iPods had a psuedo random order with no repeats first. Maybe that's not true on the shuffle.

pseudo-random is geek-speak that acknowledges the way a processor "picks" a number makes it not truly random. say a program is to "randomly" pick 1 of a set of integers from 1-50. An algorith will typically be set to generate a number that varies and can be random. the number are not integers though. the generated number might be 49.7 and would be rounded to 50. Or it might be 49.2 and rounded to 49. but what if it is 49.5? the program has to have a way to pick- it might go up or down. something like that, anyway, makes it not completely unbiased to the numbers. but it is pretty random.
and iPods will play some songs twice before others are played at all.

I don't think I've ever had repeats if my (non-shuffle) is on continuously, but if I turn it off and then back on, it seems to like to play certain songs more. Possibly it thinks things I've listened to often are favorites? dunno.

Apple begs to differ:
- When set to shuffle, iPod won't repeat a song until it has played through the entire album, playlist, or library. To shuffle a playlist, the setting must be set to Shuffle Songs (not Albums).

Comcast phone service
A friend has asked about getting phone/internet/TV all through Comcast (or possibly some other cable provider). Does this suck more than DSL? If so, why (in very simple terms)?
She is I think living somewhere somewhat densely populated, in New Jersey.

What if you turn off the iPod? It resets, right?

Depends on whether you have to restart the playlist. If I pause it, it shuts off, and will pick up where I left off when I hit play again. On the shuffle, even if I turn it off, it picks up where I left off.
