Dear Abby:

Q: My beautiful, intelligent 18-year-old daughter, "Lara," has just completed her first year of college. She's attending school out of state in the same city where her father, "Grant" — my ex — is living.

Abby, Grant left when Lara was 5 months old. He left us for his sister, with whom he had been having an affair, because she told him she was pregnant with his child.

The divorce was very hard on us, and my daughter has been in counseling for years — including at the college.

Lara spends her holidays with her father, her aunt and their two children.

She's aware of the incestuous relationship and vents a lot of anger at me for the rough time we've had.

In the past, Lara's therapists have told me she directs her anger at me because "she can't get angry at the person she should really be angry at — her father."

My daughter refuses to tell her current therapist about the incestuous relationship because she's afraid it will be reported to the authorities and the children will be taken away. The sister bought Lara a car and a cell phone, and pays the phone bill, car insurance and some of Lara's other expenses.

I suspect the thought of losing the car and cell phone have something to do with my daughter's hesitation to level with her therapist.

How can I get Lara to stop abusing me because of her repressed anger at her father?

They're usually in the 5'4 to 5'10 range and you can tell that they hit the gym a bit more than they need to. They're kind of aggressive and clueless. They seem to think they have a chance with women way the fuck out of their league, and they don't mind getting in the way if you're working on a woman. They're like interference - they make a mess of your ability to get anywhere with a woman. I have bad hearing to begin with, so when I'm standing at a bar trying to listen to a woman, and there's three or four Vinnies talking loudly to attract women nearby, it creates so much white noise in my head that I can’t concentrate. These guys seem to work in groups and dress alike, and they seem to be louder than everybody else (I think they think that talking loud will attract women). Maybe I’m being a snob, but they just don’t behave normally.

Am I at all getting my point across. This is hard to explain. I guess what I'm describing are overly confident men who aren't alpha males, but act like goons in a failed attempt to portray what they think alpha males act like. These men swarm Philly bars like locusts.
Paigow would have jumped all over this as a perfect description of Slave. Those were the days. Her gaping gashy void is larger than I ever could have imagined.

The obvious answer here is to up the ante and buy the daughter a flying car, a video phone and her own house. Then she'll know who really loves her.

I trust Abby and I came to the same conclusion?

Abby recommended the ipod vibrator, too, but close enough.

I assumed that the aunt/stepmom already bought her one and showed her how to use it.

As it appears that several people are getting in touch with their inner geek this fine Friday, I felt it important to note that the first episode of Battlestar Galactica - Season II airs tonight on Sci Fi.

Most of the girls you meet in bars are friends of friends. It doesn't get any easier than that. Most of the time, right after the introduction, both of you know that you're probably going home together. Or not. Either way, you know within the first 15 minutes.* On the occasions when I was trying to hook up with a random, I would just introduce myself. If she smiled back and continued the conversation, then I was in. If not, out.

*unless she finds you obnoxious at first and can't stand you. Then you must feed her drinks so she'll eventually think you're charming.

Heh. I sent a reminder e-mail regarding that very point to a few BG fans. Did you see the article in Salon a few days ago? (spree: minor spoilers regarding tonight's episode on the last page)

She's dead to me.
As TM noted, she lost anyway. Even worse, the guy I would have bet at 15-1 yesterday in the WSOP, Lazar, is still alive. I decided, however, to go with Steve Dannenmann at 8-1, although I would find it very amusing Mike Matusow won because people love to hate him, while I find him funny.

You can now resume discussing how Vinnies cockblock a married man.

Slave seems to be posting here less often. In fact, he seems to have followed paigow over to the Spanky Board. Ah, true love.
When you idiots actually discuss something interesting, shoot me a heads-up email.

Besides Shifter, you keep posting my old Infirm posts under that sock of yours. Pretend that's my contribution.
