Been hitting the PPV porn pretty hard, have we? I really wish my cable company would adopt a more discreet billing policy, like they have in the better hotels.

No, no, no, you have it all wrong -

1) Holding American citizens indefinitely without charges or access to attorneys - ok
2) Monitoring domestic phone calls without seeking a warrant from a secret rubber stamp panel - ok
3) Checking library records to see what you've checked out - ok
4) Outing a covert CIA operative for political gain - ok
5) Reporting the existence of any of the above - treason

That's why I have a secret account in Hank's name down at the local Adult Video Shoppe. I'll PM you the number, if you like.

I've grown pretty tired of porn. I guess I'm just jaded. It's the subscription to HBO that has me worried. You know that network carries shows by enemies of the State like Lewis Balck and George Carlin, don't you?

These were international banking transactions. There is no expectation of privary there. All jurisdictions involved in an international transaction can do all the inspecting that they want. This goes for phone calls, financial transactions and any goods shipped out or in of the United States.

And when you're in the better hotels, you should really be calling out for the better quality hookers, if you want discretion.

The "hooker" button on the phone was right there between concierge and wake-up call. How was I supposed to know they'd send the cleaning lady and put a separate charge for "in-room ho" on my bill?

Are you stating that as a matter of law or of principle?

I'm sorry. You said you were staying at a "better" hotel.

Both. If you are involved in any sort of international transaction the other country involved will most certainly feel it has a right to check out what you are doing. So there is abolutely no expectation of privacy. I know the Japanese government monitors all incoming and outgoing financial transactions and phone calls. The listen to them and check them out with impunity.

If the government can check you all they want (including an anal cavity search) when you cross the border why shouldn't they be able to check phone calls and banking transactions that cross the border?

But I think that is the way Federal Law views it anyway.
