Before the Rona, Icky was on a plane 50X or so a year, visiting clients, doing depositions in hotel conference rooms, staying in hotels. Really an anachronistic method but my litigation don't exactly hire the best and the brightest. Not to mention expensive as heck, especially when these depositions run 4-5 days (I shit you not).

The last 4 weeks or so we have been doing virtual deps. Client sits in his house with a computer w a web cam, lawyers are each in their houses with computers, same for the court reporter.

Now instead of scratching the bed bug bites from some Hampton Inn, I roll in at 9 from rolling around, doing my Nike workout with KG, no planes, no expense reports, but no FF miles. Wonder if this catches on.

Someone in my office in the virtual staff meeting was asking when we'd be going back to the office. I'm like why?

I'm guessing that the venn diagram of the people who want to go back to that life and the people have kids who should be in school is just a circle.

In my office face time (not FaceTime) has always been a big component of compensation. Not sure how it factors in this year.

I'm curious about the mechanics of this. How were they charging you? It seems to me that you should be able to withdraw the authorization for them to hit your account (debit, credit or ACH), and then if they keep doing it, you can go to your card issuer/bank to do a chargeback, and also file a class action under the EFTA.

Maybe a less extreme lockdown over a longer time might make more sense?

(But again, this would require Americans to exert self-discipline... so maybe not.)

Well, yeah it's not the money, it's the point.

I was paying for 3 family members -- 2 on an Amex, one on a Chase. Chase reversed it right away; Amex, I had to call 3-4 times. It's more their sheer audacity than anything else.

And as far as a class action, one was already filed but they have $10 m in assets and like $120 m in debt so . . .

I can't tell how different things are in Sweden than they are here. One big difference is that their schools are open. But my sense is that Europeans are much more aware of what's happening in other countries than Americans are, and Swedes who know that every other country in Europe is on lockdown are probably less likely to go about their normal life. A lot of Americans, not so much.

The investors, sure, but why the management?

Is there any airline that has managed this situation well, significantly better than the others? No, because demand is off across the board. Airlines have high fixed costs, and don't spend an awful lot of money to fly the planes. Is anyone surprised that taking away all their business for a long period is going to wreck them all?
