What genius decided that releasing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the same weekend that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came out was a good idea? Half the relevant audience has their nose deep in a book right now.

That said, I finished the book around 2:45 this morning.

Actually, if you look at the theater numbers for the weekend, that theory is complete bunk. Charlie beat expectations. Guess everyone needed a break from reading about Harry and the gang.

As for the book, i finished it at around 11 AM. The first 500 pages were pretty much a waste. JK is getting Tom Clancy disease. Either that or her editors are too afraid to actually cut stuff out.

I don't really want to discuss the actual story until others have chimed in that they read it. I will say that I was a bit disappointed.

There were some good bits in the first 500 pages; it's not my favorite of the six, but I wouldn't say I was disappointed.

eta: By the way, please chime -- I'd love to discuss it (by pm if necessary). I would bet, however, that the Harry Potter freaks on this board (who, almost by definition, must have OCD) have already finished it, so probably not a lot of risk that we're going to spoil some unsuspecting FB'er's HP experience.

Haven't seen it -- but would like to (although the smart money is on my seeing "Fantastic Four" before I get to see Wedding Crashers). The review I read liked it quite a lot -- except for the "sweet and romantic" part. The reviewer thought it detracted from the otherwise-funny story.

As you say, toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.

(Which reminds me, for some reason, my seven-year-old says "toe-mah-toe". WTF? I have no idea where he picked that up.)

The dudes on my desk have given universal snaps to Wedding Crashers. The one or two of them who haven't seen it have forbidden the others to talk about it, so as not to spoil it (and as I haven't seen it, ao there will not be actual spoilers here).

One of the viewers said (and I quote), "It is the funniest movie I have ever seen." This guy is not particularly inclined to hyperbole, either. More than one of them said he was literally, literally, crying in his seat from laughter.

Another guy said he thought he was fearful he would choke, he was laughing so hard.

I think I may need to go see this thing at lunchtime. Hey, it's no lunch with GWNC, but a hilarity-filled lunchtime can't be wrong -- and if it is, I don't wanna be right!

So, Not Bob, Ty (and whoever else), I'm wondering if you watched the Yankees-Red Sox game last night. If you did, you probably saw the play where Robinson Cano tagged Millar out in the second inning. If you didn't, I will describe it for you.

Millar is on first, a sharp ground ball is hit to Cano. Cano who is standing right behind Millar goes to tag Millar to start the double play. Millar is a good 30 feet from second base. As Cano applies the tag, Millar, trying to avoid it, falls over on his back. Cano, tries to step over him to make the throw at first. Millar intentionally sticks his legs up in the air to trip Cano. Clearly interference, even though the brain-dead umpires didn't make the call. Cano falls and is unable to complete the double play.

Please explain to me how this is any different from ARod's slap-play in the playoffs. Is Millar now in the same class as Arod as far as gamesmanship goes? Should he forever be categorized as a cheap player?

I haven't heard Schilling admit that his teammate made a "bush league" play yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

Umm... I was away for the weekend and while the book was waiting for me when I got home, so was the possibility of sex. So I'm only on page 50 or so. please post spoiler space!!
