Enough with the slamming on Canadians all the time. There seem to be some misogyny problems in Australia that may require our attention . . .

Those bugs definitely need to be extinctuated before this American agrees to let Australia become the 51st state!
Edited to add link to discussion of 51st state idea -- http://www.news.com.au/common/story_...55E421,00.html

My local bartenders say the smokers who come in are drinking less, and going home sooner, because they have to keep schlepping their butts out the door, but also say smoking former regulars just don't come in as much at all 'cause going to a bar just to walk in and out doors all night is now more bother than they want, so they just stay home. And the other regulars come in less because the smoking regulars aren't around as much to hang out with, and it just keeps getting worse over time in a great cycle of staying away. In other words, they think the ban was a serious hit to bar culture, and the remainder of bar culture is sort of disintigrating in its wake, and nothing is taking its place.

Diet Pepsi.
And I'm willing to sub-license the names if the fluffers are drawn from the FB pool and I get vetting and audition rights.

And don't forget that it is common knowledge that smokers tip more than non-smokers so the wait-staff is being shorted. Why is it that smokers tip more? Is it because we drink more? Or is it because we figure that we have less time to live and thus nothing to save for? hmmmmm

Tom Leykis is a dick
EAGLE, Colo., July 23 — The 19-year-old woman who accused Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant of rape was named on Tuesday by a nationally syndicated talk-show host and on the Internet, pushing her into the spotlight despite pleas for privacy from her family. Meanwhile Tom Leykis, host of a radio talk-show based in Los Angeles and aimed mostly at young men, began using her name on the air and told Reuters that he has no plans to stop. “We’re told that rape is violence, not sex, and if that’s true there’s no reason she should feel shame or embarrassment,” Leykis said, adding that he felt it unfair to name Bryant but not his accuser.
The talk-show host, who is heard on 60 stations across the country, also said he did not believe the woman’s claims. Saunders said Leykis’ reasoning about rape and disclosure was a “distortion” because rape victims were often stigmatized by society.
“Rape is a person using domination in sex to express aggression, if not outright sadism,” she said. “Rape uses sex to debase a woman and to assert male dominance. (Leykis) has no right to take it upon himself to make that kind of decision. This guy violated what I think is an ethical law.”
OK, here's my take...Leykis, who is sometimes funny, has gone off the deep end on this one. The girl's parents asked people to stop talking to the press after she received multiple death threats from "basketball fans." Now whether or not she is a publicity hound or not is not for him to decide. To say that she should not feel embarassed about being raped is missing the point. If she is feeling threatened and something happens to her - isn't he going to be a little bit responsible for churning the waters?

Darling, thank God you're awake! We're on Springer in 10 minutes.
So it turns out the guy who woke up from the 19 year coma has a lot more to worry about that the fact that his wardrobe is a little outmoded and he missed Nirvana entirely. The family has yet to break it to him that:
- his wife had three children by another man;
- the daughter he remembers as a six-week-old baby is now working as a stripper; and
- his wife is suing his parents for his legal guardianship.
Whoops.

Because they recognize the inherent justness of compensating the waitstaff for subjecting them to their clouds of carcinogens?

A similar thing happened here. Also, bars that enforced the ban took a hit as people went to those that didn't. But over time, the enforcement evened out and, over time, people who were regulars before the ban got over it, and became regulars again.
People who hang out in bars every night will want to keep doing that, in general. And will make an accomodation -- at least, that seems to be the case here.
Though I admit, it's easier to step outside to smoke in a place that never gets too hot or too cold.
