SD is cooler (temp-wise) than LA and OC by 5-10 degrees (average temps in the mid to upper 60s year-round). I could help you out with downtown stuff if you are into city pursuits, but if it is purely beach stuff you want, I know La Jolla or Del Mar are the main resort areas, but I think they are more known for other things than purely beachy stuff. For example Torrey Pines golf resort.
That said, Hotel del Coronado is quite beachy. And generally very cool to visit (a landmark hotel). Not sure of the price, but as far as I know, it is the most beach-resort-feeling place I know of in SD. Excellent Sunday brunch also.

I haven't ever been to San Diego and have 4 days and want to go. Prob will go to zoo and other touristy stuff. I like hearing/seeing ocean-- it'll be in Feb so not really looking to lie in the sun or anything.
Don't think I have it to flaunt.
