No kidding. I saw this story the other day. What an idiotic thing to say, even if he was "joking". At least the mother and the kid seem to have taken it in stride.

What I found even more offensive was later in the article, where it mentioned that there was an assemblyman who was ready to raise a stink because he assumed that the little girl was black, and then quickly dropped it once he learned she wasn't. As if that should make one bit of difference in the matter.

From the article:

'Democratic state Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, who had scheduled a protest by civil rights organizations, canceled the demonstration after an apparent mix-up over the girl's racial background.

Dymally was quoted in the San Jose Mercury News Thursday saying the child was "a little African-American girl. Would he (Riordan) have done that to a white girl?"

The girl is white, with blonde hair.

Dymally did not return telephone calls. His office issued a statement Wednesday calling Riordan's remarks to the girl "outrageous and irresponsible," then issued another statement Thursday saying, "To err is human; to forgive is divine."

"Race is not a factor in this issue," Dymally said in Thursday's statement, adding that Riordan had apologized a second time. "It is time for us to move on."'

What a fucking asshole. These comments are just as harmful to this little girl as they would be to any minority. If two apologies are unacceptable for a little black girl, they are just as unacceptable for her. To say that it was time they moved on is ridiculous. He should be just as outraged. Fucking dumbass.

Fuck ACL, let's do this

I haven't done this since I was 6 or 7 years old. But I've been told this is popular around Austin. Someone fill me in. I'll skip one of the concert days for this. Who's coming with me?

And I'm not a bad guy. I've even found an inner tube for ltl.

If you're not a bad guy, why do you insist on teasing her with the gi-ant do-nut?

I did that on Lake Austin, as a matter of fact (as well as some fan-cee water skiing!).

(At least, I think it's called Lake Austin -- but it looks more like a river. )

Is there a name for vodka and lemonade? B/c it's wonderful to sip one on a rooftop on a hot summer day in the city.

Screw the inner tubes. Floating down a river wearing just a life jacket as a diaper is the way to go.

I don't think Riordan cares.

He's just a grouchy official who's only hanging around there because he has to and who doesn't give a shit what people think and only pokes fun at the status-seeking, approval-wanting idiots.

Doesn't sound like it would give you much protection. And you're already in a river, so why worry? Just let it go like you were in a Pennypacker shower.

Tattoos and Poll?

This reminds me of a related story I saw recently where studio execs have warned Eminem not to get any more tattoos as it may jeapordize his acting career. Apparently you can reach some "critical mass" with the body art where it becomes practically impossible to cover them with makeup. Do you think anyone (besides Coltrane) is going to step in and tell her that enough is enough, or does it not matter because she's Angelina Jolie, Oscar-winner?

Link:

http://starlocity.com/modules.php?op...wlang=&topic=6

And this could be a potential poll question, probably more easily answered by those who have body-art.

Do you think that getting a tattoo is a career-limiting move and why, or is it really no big deal anymore?

I'll just throw it out there until someone comes up with something better.

Protection?

I like it b/c you're mostly in the river, instead if being on top of the inner tube. The fact that you're wearing the life jacket like a diaper has nothing to do with going to the bathroom. It keeps you in a perfectly upright floating position, and there's nothing more comfortable than floating in the water. It's like being in a recliner in the water.
