I think paying off your family's debt is quite enough to do for them

Plans for the $75 million? I have no earthly idea what I'd do with all that money. My fantasies are about winning enough money to give me annual income approximating what I make now without having to work. But I'm sure I could spend the rest on real estate. Splitting my time between Hawaii, the coast of Maine, Paris, and San Francisco wouldn't be wrong.

Black Sabbath is a no brainer and should have been in years ago.
Seriously? How the fuck are they not in? I honestly thought they got in 10 years ago.

Damn travesty.

Given the list of inductees, let me revise my comment to say that they all get in, and some others as well, next year or soon thereafter.

ZZ Top? Prince (already)?

and Floyd is in.

I have only played the lotto once. Before the drawing, there was a possibility, however remote, that I would win. I siezed on that possibility and started making plans with the money similar to the ones outlined above. I tinkered with them, improved upon them, and they started becoming more and more concrete in my mind. I woke up happy the next few mornings just based on this possiblity. My anticipation was palpable.

When the winning number were revealed, and they were not my numbers, I was crushed. It was as if someone had reached into my pocket and robbed me of tens of millions of dollars. I have not played the lotto since. Too depressing.

Abba
Bryan Adams
Jeff Beck
Pat Benatar
Black Sabbath
Chicago
Dick Dale
Def Leppard
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Iron Maiden
Joan Jett
Lynyrd Skynyrd
John Mellencamp
Steve Miller Band
the Pretenders
Simple Minds
Twisted Sister
U2
Van Halen

My guesses on who will be inducted are Black Sabbath, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Lynard Skynard (ugh), John Mellencamp, The Pretenders, U2 and Van Halen.

Anyone else have thoughts?
I'm honestly not sure Jeff Beck deserves to be inducted as a solo artist, and he's already in with the Yardbirds.

Black Sabbath should be in, but for some reason the committee has not seen fit, and probably won't until Ozzy strokes out. Last time I saw him, he looked close to doing so.

U2 is an absolute lock. Prepare for a long rambling acceptance from Bono. Plus, how many times have they been chosen to introduce inductees?

Dick Dale should be. Question: Does the Rock Hall do something similar to the Baseball HOF, whereby they have a normal eligibility period for an act to be nominated, and then after that time the act can only be inducted as an "early influence"?

Grandmaster Flash - Should be. Will be.

Van Halen - I question whether the band belongs, but it's Eddie's only way in, and he definitely belongs.

Pretenders - Critical darlings, groundbreaking in terms of how many women have actually fronted rock bands and she actually wrote most of her own material. I tend to place her and Patti Smith in the same category. She definitely belongs.

When are Public Enemy and/or RUN-DMC eligible?

And as everytime there's a massive lottery payout, I've already spent a lot of the money before they've picked my numbers.

This time around, it looks like I'm going to be a real estate mogul, though I'll probably be starting up film studio too. Assuming that paying off every one in the family's (there will be DNA testing, btw) debt and the party where I try to recreate the Tyco event in the Mediterranean (complete with pissing ice sculptures) with everyone I know shouldn't dent too much in the estimated $75 M cash payout, I'll be buying/building homes/property in Tuscany or Spain, Mexico, the Bay Area, central Texas, and New Mexico. I also have my eye on a few old buildings here in Houston that would be expensive to renovate, but very cool when done.

I'll then retire to do charity work, write a bit, and move my household every few months to another of my homes.

Your plans with $75M cash?
A very large pile of cocaine, BnB, and me.

http://www.rockhall.com/hof/allinductees.asp (list of people already in. I didn't know that there was a "sideman" category).
I think Rush has to be considered for their influence, their musicianship, their longevity and their sales. Lots of bands, Metallica included, cite them as influences.

Here's a few more... Alice Cooper, KISS, Moody Blues, Sex Pistols (won't that be a fun induction ceremony?), Iggy Pop and the Stooges and (a lock once eligible in a year or two) R.E.M.

Hmm. I wonder if the moral of this story could apply to say, the experience of developing a crush on the FB.

I normally have these fantasies only when I am working too much, and see the Lotto billboards on the cab ride home late in the evening. They are a sure sign of stress.

I have yet to experience the disappointment.

The California lottery's advertising has stopped selling the prospect of buckets of cash, in a tacit admission the odds of winning are too remote for a quasi-government entity to sell to people in good faith. Now they sell the feelings you get after buying a lottery ticket --- the mere dreaming that accompanies the distant possibility of being rich. For a dollar, you buy two days' worth of high hopes.

Your experience may not have been expressed during the focus group. Maybe you should write a letter.

Don't knock Prince. Next time you're playing hoops, you might get hit with a fruity pick, out of the blue (or should I say purple?).
