She's not trying to make you come. She's just giving you an hors d'oeuvre before you give her the bistecca alla fiorentina.

I'm sick of the Beastie Boys. They've been doing the same shit for years. Their sound has barely evolved. It's time for them to reinvent themselves.

Velvet revolver ain't a bad record. I had a gift cert to burn at Borders this week, so I bought a copy of Contraband. I expected to be let down, an I was pleasantly surprised. Its pretty solid big dumb rock, with some great hooks. Its worth every nickel of the $12.99.

You are forever taken off my list of music critics to heed. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? While you're explaining, PLEASE ALSO EXPLAIN WHY MADONNA WOULD CHANGE HER NAME FROM MADONNA TO ESTHER? THAT'S WORSE THAN CHANGING HER NAME TO A SYMBOL.

Further to the continuing Starbucks saga, this morning I was vindicated, and I am now happy. I walked up to the counter, the cashier barista asked me "how many shots" I told her four, and she called out a perfect drink "Iced venti quad raspberry white mocha" I didn't even have to utter anything except the number of shots.

With which part of my commentary do you take issue?

Because she is now a follower of Kaballah, ancient Jewish mysticism that is all the rage now [those little red bracelets] in Hollywood. She also is keeping Kosher last I heard and gives large amounts of dinero to the local Kaballah centre and the Kaballah school she sends her kid to. I don't know enough about Kaballah; but it appears that Kaballah also still incorporates traditional Jewish holidays etc. as she was at their version of a shul for Rosh Hashanah......

Whaaa? The first record was a Run-DMC Raising Hell sound, then cam PB, which was the pinnacle of sampling at the time, then they popped out Check Your Head, which was a half punk rock record. Next came Ill Communication, which was all over the place - from east Asian sounding jams through jazz bits, into some punk and a few old school raps. Hello Nasty was an overhyped, overfilled attempt to best PB, but it was ok. Now there's TT5B, which sounds, so far, like HN, just a little calmer and less out to impress you with techincal wizardry.

Um, thank you. My question wasn't literal. But thanks anyway.

It started somewhere around [I bought the velvet revolver CD and then went on from there]. You should have used the gift cert to buy a book. (Or the new Rachael Yamagata, but that's just because I have an Asian fetish).

Oh hell, you can't say GnR was not an important band, and I happen to like big dumb music. I won't even call it a "guilty pleasure" like most music snobs tend to do. I think big bloated rock is good in small doses. I have enough "critics' darlings" in my collection. Sometimes, you just need the high test stuff.

I also happen to love old AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Lynrd Skynrd and even one a copy of ZZ Top's "Deguello" cd (got a killer version of Robert Johnson's "Dust My Broom" on it, and Billy Gibbons could actually play a great guitar, back when they were actually a band for about three years in the mid 70s).

The only thing that stops Use Your Illusion I and II from being two of the greatest cds of the past 20 years is their overproduction and the sloppy overly-long ballads that clog them. Pull out the 3 min rock tracks, rip out the overdubs, and you've got some great tunes - on par with some of the Stones' stuff from 69-72. Appetite For Destruction and Back in Black are still the two best dumb hard rock records of all time.

Oh sebby, that's not what I'm talking about. It's about rockers channeling the exact same sound of over a decade ago without an inch of new creativity in the mix in order to line the coffers because their smack budget is running dry. COntraband will give you nothing you don't already have on their old albums, when it was fresh and new. At the risk of being dramatic and cliche, they're just caricatures of themselves now. Gimme a break, sebby.
