Foot commando. Yeah, I like it. And now you can say you invented it. Even though Sebby is going to use it without a license.

AON: I had an interview with a partner once who told me he refused to wear shoes, except to court. Hated the shoes. So he did his interview in socks. And a suit. It was freakish. I wanted to get out of that interview so fast. But there I was stuck with shoeless guy.

Yes, and somewhat aroused.

The PK system is like democracy -- lots of faults, but no one has figured out a better way.

The idea of just letting the game run in overtime until someone calls a goal would just be insane, especially in a tournament where the winners would have to move to the next playoff round a few days later.

Cream cheese, as in "a bagel with a schmear."

But PKs are the worst. Much worse than the NFL or college football overtimes. In the latter two, the game is still decided by the entire team playing the same way they played the entire game, except with "sudden death" rules and different field positions. Not true with PKs. It's a crapshoot.

I like Burger's idea: allow for many more subs in overtime, or even during regulation. Let players who have come out come back in.

I'd rather see a best-of-three rock/paper/scissors overtime than PKs.

What's the rationale for limited subs? Is it to level the field for less talented teams, so that, e.g., Brazil can't trot in an entirely fresh "second half squad" and dominate even more?

I'm okay with the rule on not allowing players to return, at least at this level (not so fun in youth soccer). But why the limit on number?

They were not suggestions to make the game (i.e., regulation play) more exciting, they were alternatves to penalty kicks.

Regulation play seems fine the way it is, except for all the diving/stalling so players can catch their breath.

Tying threads together

From Slate's review of Spiderman 2:

"Peter's discovery that his teenage body could suddenly shoot white sticky stuff was confusing, but also scary and exhilarating—as it is for so many of us."

Maybe Tiger's ego isn't as big as I thought. I guess we'll see.

TM
Question: Do you think he did this entirely of his own volition, or do you think his handlers and Nike finally got him in a corner and beat him over the head with a 9-iron?

Tods? They're a lotta change. Santonis and Cole Hahns. The Santonis feel like I'm wearing no shoes at all. Highly recommend them.

One of the main reasons I don't watch anymore. The theatrics. I remember taking pride in staying up when someone hacked at your legs. There was a "you can try to trip me, etc., but I'm either going through you or around you" mentality. Taking a dive was cheap and for pussies. I don't see that attitude in pro soccer.
