Interesting you should ask. My ex-boyfriend (who was much younger than I, although shy of 10 years - oh and this is the tie-in, we used to fuck) used to sing Blind Melon in an Elmo voice to a kid I used to babysit. The kid loved it.
All Elmo can say
is that Elmo's life is pretty plain
Elmo likes watching the puddles gather rain

Hey. It's all about the snooping. Fuck snooping. There are some things a parent shouldn't know in order to keep their sanity. Snooping leads to grounding and when your friends are grounded, things get pretty dull.

Rapper Snoop-Dog has collaborated with auto-trickster Big Slice (aka Michel Rich) before for such projects as his Snoop DeVilles and a bouncin’ Laker purple and orange Pontiac Parisienne but no project has been as large, and altruistic as the new Rowland Heights youth football bus. Loaded with 27 video screens, 70 speakers, DVD, VHS and an Xbox, these kids ride to the games in style.

Snoopin' ain't gonna stop. It's just the resulting search warrants and testimony that are affected. So, the smart parent will continue to snoop, but then administer their own punishment, and leave the cops out of it. Like the good old days. This was ultimately an anti-kid ruling. My kid snatches a purse, and he's gonna WISH the cops would show up at our house.

Uh, if the gf's mom reported this to the cops, presumably she did it because she reported it to the bfs parents and they didn't take care of it to her satisfaction, or because she had no confidence in the guy changing and was trying to get him away from her daughter.
So, basically, I'm confused by your statement that this development will result in more punishment to the kid. I mean, what, if your kid were going to end up in court for purse-snatching, you would NOT punish them?

I imagine that this will be a non-issue as soon as the legislature meets and amends the law.
Either that or kids in Oregon are going to have to memorize and recite a notice of privacy practices every time they pick up the phone.
"...no expectation of privacy whatsoever, and this telephone call may be recorded for parenting purposes. Jen! Didja hear about Pacey and Joey behind the bleachers last night?"

Mine was more a comment on the snooping thingie generally. The rest - the evidentiary value of an eavesdropped phone conversation - is fairly settled law.

Ya know, he actually wasn't on smack. Daughter may not have had the expectation of privacy, for various reasons, but bf certainly did, at least by normal standards.
