Wireless issue

Try here. I doubt they're as snarky. But less sex.

Thank you.
ETA Oh, wait, additional info -- if I plug the modem into the computer (ie no wireless) there is not a problem. I forgot about that. So it seems like it must be a wireless issue and not an issue with the modem or the cord from the modem to the phoneline. But I will look on that site. They seem helpful.

Customer service is likely unhelpful if you don't provide them the right information until after you hang up.
As for wireless connections, sometimes they drop. Although they should be able to be reestablished without rebooting the wireless modem.

I would likely call customer service from home, where the computer is, rather than from work. However posting from home can be frustrating, what with the dropped connections.

holy iMac
Dual core Intel processors!?!?! Same design. Same features. Same prices. What's different: 2-3x faster with Intel Core Duo processor. Each processor is faster than the G5. 10.2 on iMac G5/32.6 on iMac Core Duo. 3.2x faster. FPU (13.0/27.1 for 2.1x). Every iMac now has dual processors

Macbooks.
Is there another one more thing?
Although the macbooks sound pretty sweet, if that's what I wanted. I assume there will subsequently be "pro" and regular versions, to replace the PowerBook/iBook.

MacBook Pro looks mighty fine. Too bad I'm not in the market for a notebook...

Steve Jobs
CEO Steve Jobs turned 51 on Feb. 24. While the mercurial man behind the Macintosh may have received gifts last week, he's apparently poised to give the Apple faithful a few this Tuesday. Will the "fun new products" that Apple has promised to unveil at a Feb. 28 media event be more of the same, or will it be the next step in Apple's transformation from niche computer maker to mainstream home-entertainment company?
Intelligence obtained by the Net's intrepid Apple spies suggests that the company has been tinkering with a supercharged video iPod. Last October, Apple unveiled a video-capable iPod, with a square color screen was perfect for playing the TV episodes and music videos that Apple promptly began selling via its iTunes Music Store. But the new device supposedly uses the entire front of the iPod as a touch-sensitive screen. If the reports are true, the larger, rectangular display would be ideal for playing widescreen movies -- which represent the next logical step in Apple's digital-content sales.
An iTunes Movie Store would also fit nicely with Apple's other rumored gizmo, a pumped-up version of its tiny, low-cost Mac mini computer. Many Mac enthusiasts have already plugged their current-model minis into their TVs and stereos, using the $500-$600 device as a media server for music, movies, and TV shows. But the new model supposedly goes one step further, by bundling in the ability to record TV shows. (Third-party devices to turn Macs into digital video recorders have been on the market for a few years.)
Fucker - couldn't have done this before Christmas?

Windows XP Home - Backup?
Does anyone know whether Windows XP Home Edition even includes a Backup program? I have searched for it in vain. I can't even find it when I use the CD-Rom. Microsoft Net Help only has instructions for installing the program from Windows 98. I'm pretty sure I've got all the Windows CDs that came with my laptop, so I don't think the issue is that I'm looking in the wrong place so much as that I don't know what I'm looking for.
I'm getting tired of manually backing up files and thought it might be nice to have a backup wizard. I suppose I could easily set up a routine for backing up that does essentially the same thing as this program, but at this point it's very tough to follow through on any project. Simply finding the Windows CD-Rom was on my to-do list for a week.
Maybe I should drink more water?
As always, I'd appreciate any advice. Y'all have always come through for me in the past.

New Mac Mini
A nice upgrade. Most notably, this new version has opticla audio out, which addresses what I saw as the bigegst shortcoming of v.1.0.

You know what would be nice? If Apple just got on with it and bought Tivo. Take the mini, add the Tivo software to it, but with Apple flair, and introduce a true media center.

I think that's coming, though not sure when. I suspect that TiVo's contracts with the likes of Comcast make that difficult.

How? Apple could honor them, and, while improving the Tivo interface also work to integrate it into Front Row as well. Presumably they would still need to offer a product that appealed to non-mac folks anyway; it merely would allow better integration.
Besides, Comcast and Tivo better get their JV going a bit better. My mom's comcast DVR sucks. it. hard.

Current comcast DVR's run on Motorola software (mine does, anyway), which isn't TiVo, but I don't find it as bad as you do. Which device does she have? I have the dual tuner HD box, and it's significantly better than a previous single-tuner box I had.
