And I don't ask for more than that from potential co-workers. If someone has reasonable social skills and is not a completely humorless drone, I don't care if they would rather spend time with their kids than me. Finding out a candidate's interests (whether it be from the resume or the interview) helps me screen out the personality zeroes. Or less than zeroes - ever notice how some people can actually be aggressively boring. The people who are so boring that their boring-ness spreads out like kudzu, smothering all that is interesting or worthwhile around it. Anyway, that I happen to have some good friends at work is just a bonus.
As there is some unrelated discussion here about how some people purportedly think they are holier-than-thou or whatever, I will note that the unstated premise of my personality-based screening is that I am super-fucking cool. But I am, so it's all good.
