While most black and white avatars are outstanding, I gotta agree that his is not a standout. And not bc I am anti Rollins. That said, I prefer it to the other two really dreadful avatar categories

1) the cartoon avatar
2) the moving avatar.

I am sorry if I hurt you with my flipper arm comment. If it makes you feel any better, I had forgotten about it so thoroughly that I had to do a search for the genesis.

I am OK with cartoon and moving avatars. I find the vengeful Statue of Liberty with a flaming sword avatar of slave's a bit disturbing, if only because it makes me think she's going to incinerate and/or chop up the tired/poor/hungry etc.

ETA I am pondering trying to become nicer. Aside from the fact that I'm likely incapable of being nicer, I think it would just make me wholly tedious (instead of mostly tedious).

Can't anyone photoshop around here other than Hank's wife? Perhaps we should set up a scholarship fund, send someone to trade school to learn this.

I'll gladly volunteer. It's got to be more satisfying than my current gig.

I just found out a very close friend of mine has been gambling away his paychecks and living on credit cards for the last nine months. He finally hit rock bottom, came to me and we had our little one on one intervention.

I gave him some money so he could pay his rent and file for bankruptcy. He has sworn that he's done with the gaming forever. I believe him and trust him, which will make it all the worse if I find out he hasn't taken the steps (12 of them, I believe) we both agreed he needs to take. If I find out he tried to parlay the money I gave him on Golden Casino.com, that will be the end. I am really hoping I don't find that out.

Good luck to you and your friend, and nice work on getting him into bankruptcy before the law changes.

I feel for you man. I've had similar experiences, and it isn't always pretty. My advice is to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Be ready to follow through.

Could I borrow a few bucks for, um, rent also? Promise I won't spend it in Vegas next weekend.

I was shacked up with a gambling addict for a year and a half (until he was chased out of town by the three bookies he owed money to). From this, and a bevy of afterschoo specials, lifetime movies and other such stuff, I think that addicts rarely succeed quitting on the first try. Best of luck.

I have a two-part question.

Are you the three bookies in this story? If so, what are your names?

Oops. Follow-up: If so, are you the gambling addict too?

Yeah, I am steeling myself for the worst if it comes to that. I love the guy, but I've got a wife and kid and a bar tab of my own.

And of course, now that he has confessed to me and I've become a benefactor, the whole dynamic of our friendship that I used to enjoy is totally lost. I am now The Guy He Owes Money To, and until he gets that monkey (ha) off his back he and I won't be completely comfortable around each other. Sucks all around.
