I am displeased with how we went to war and the self-inflicted difficulties we have had in reconstructing Iraq because of the fact that it made us only marginally safer, and certainly not to the level of American lives, political capital, and taxpayer dollars spent in the process. I am voting for Kerry because I find the current admin's overwhelming focus on state sponsors of terror to be hugely misguided and I don't want these mistakes repeated on a wider scale in the future.
By the way, you're the one playing lawyer tricks here, but they're not so clever. What Kerry said last week was not that he supported all that we did in Iraq aside from alienating the French. What he said was that if presented with the resolution he was presented with back in October of '02 he would vote the same way again. That prior vote doesn't make him jointly liable with the admin for what was done with the authority given to the Prez, no matter how much you apparently need to have Kerry share the blame for the stumbles of your bumbling heroes in the GOP.

Oh. No i see. It had to do with the definition of "is."

Wait -- so you're going to help the Bush-Cheney folks wrap him in the flag again, but you regret that it's corralling barely informed and engaged voters? Methinks you lack the courage of your convictions.
On the war on terrorism, I was referring specifically to Dept of Homeland Insecurity, or whatever Ridge's bureaucracy is called. I have no confidence in it. As for the rest of the war on terrorism, Larry Davis has my proxy. It wasn't going all that badly when Bush took his eye off the ball to go to war with Iraq.

Funny how you decry the opposition's image-based disinformation campaign, while Hank flogs the "Kerry agreed with the Iraq war" angle. Quite a pincer movement you've got there.
On another topic entirely, what do you think of Norm Coleman? I know absolutely zip about the guy but he came off really well on the Daily Show last night. Speaking of which, I know righties aren't really TDS's target audience but I think the republicans who go onto that show (Coleman, McCain, Mehlman) come off way better than the Dems. I think the Dems try too hard to get Stewart to sing along with them on the propaganda and they wind up stumbling over each other. I still have a facial tic from Terry McAuliffe's nightmarish performance.

And tribal sovereignty. It's hard to really put into words sometimes. PM me if you want me to flesh it out a little more.

Bilmore, welcome. Meetings are now Tuesdays at 6:30. You can have Club's chair -- it's like new, and since we made the Libertarian Survivor dropoff, I'm guessing he won't be using it for a while.

Greetings from the Island. Building the monuments to Ayn and Milton is very hard work, but the sand is white, the water's clear, the bud is flowing, and there are no taxes! Billmore, screw the meeting - there's plenty of space on the island.

Aye, but oddly as soon as he hit the shores, he kept running into people. No one could figure out who had the right of way.

It's worse than that. I think that, in many instances, Kerry is being explicitly disingenuous in setting out his positions, saying what he thinks needs to be said to capture the middle, but intending to ignore all of those indications once he's in office.
It's worse than thinking he's flippy. I think he's lying.

Et tu, Bilmore?
You sound rather like Ty, speaking of George Bush. (After all, your statement describes the vast majority of Bush's campaign statements, except on taxes and Iraq.)
My response would be something like:
"He has a policy that he thinks is right, and he's selling it hard. But that's all, a hard sell. Reasonable people can differ on these issues, but I listened to the same things you all are listening to, and I understood what he meant. I understood the limitations and uncertainties? I can't believe that you didn't! What's the matter with you people? KERRY LIED! KERRY LIED! Is that the best you can do? You folks are all so intellectually dishonest, and blinded by your partisanship and outright, visceral hatred for Democrats that you can't see your own moral bankruptcy."
Sound vaguely familiar?

I referred to the idea that. with Bush, we pretty much know what he believes, and how he'll serve those beliefs. I think that Kerry has remade himself for this campaign, and that he's presenting himself to voters as being something he is decidedly not. I suspect that he'll revert once he's in, and will have fooled many into voting for him.

I think they should have let the Iraqis storm the mosk. This would have been a tremendous confidence booster for the new government.

Not really.
See my last post, plus, I mean that in this sound-byte, image-centric campaign, Kerry has become Mr. Centrist. He's not Mr. Centrist, though, but he knows he needs to be to get those unattached voters who won't know better.
I think there are going to be lots of disaffected swing voters come next June, who got something far different than they were sold.

Disagree. I don't think many are actually voting for Kerry in this election. Rather, they are voting against Bush. I don't even think they are considering the alternative. It's just an up or down on Bush.

Sharp guy, up-and-comer nationally, fairly moderate approach. Absolutely despised by the Wellstone crowd, of course.
Norm used to be a Dem. He was mayor of St. Paul, but the Dems froze him out because of a few of his positions. (Think "abortion".) So, he switched to Repub. Ran a decent campaign against Wellstone, and then a brilliant one-week campaign against Mondale. I think he goes down this next time, if only because he dared to say less-than-worshipful things about The Holy Wellstone and so is Satan to many, but I think he'll pop up somewhere else.

John Milton? Are you and Bilmore the new Adam and Eve? Which one of you is Eve? Just b/c Bush told you to eat the fruit doesn't mean you should have.
Is this going to get deleted b/c I compared W to Satan?
