A.) The article specifically notes that the lady was turned away at many more affordable places on the North Shore, and is the only recipient in the town where she could find a place. In other places (read: other states), the voucher limits are actually raised to ensure that some section 8 recipient or another can afford to live there. This was discussed on the Infirm politics board about 2 years ago, with respect to suburbs in the DC area.
B.) Liberal like Deerfield? Evanston? Liberal like the late Senator Dixon (or whoever that guy was whose daughter was murdered)? Don't get me wrong, I'm not from the North Shore. But the area is a punch line for working-class conservatives. That said, honest question, who are the congresspersons from the North Shore these days?

A) I'm not doubting that the lady in the article was turned away in other Northern suburbs. I'm just saying that if the landlords were typical North Shore residents, they were Republican and anything but liberal.
B) Mark Kirk has most of the Northern suburbs. He's a moderate Republican. There hasn't been a Democrat on the North Shore as long as I've been voting. The rest of the Northern Burbs are covered by Phil Crane, a guy who makes Grover Norquist look liberal.
Deerfield is a Republican stronghold as well. The one town that I would agree has a liberal bias is Evanston.
