Some people use this software to have different threads on different topics. I think we have generally found that it works better to have one thread going at a time, on all different topics. That way, when you're getting beaten up, it's easier to change the subject.

The short version of the long story is that when this Board was established and we moved over from Infirm (by way of bbbbbitchslap) we'd tried as best as possible to keep a single post bulletin board using threaded board software.

As such, we try to limit the old categories to one thread each.

For oddities such as death pools, super bowl pools and the like, someone may create a separate "thread" in an established category.

As to threads, they pop up for special interest like on FB for pools or something. They help keep mind-numbingly boring esoteric crap separate from the other high-quality material. Like here, if this were properly managed, we would have a Tax thread. That way fringe and Wonk and Ty could create there little paradii w/o bugging me.

In a sense, the threads operate like the chess club would keep Atticus in a room with his peers after school so the cooler kids didn't need to get grossed out by him on their way home.

A market is not really free if only a small portion of the population is allowed to participate as anything other than subsistence level labor. You really should do some catch-up reading. I suggest David Ricardo and John Stuart Mill for the basics, and perhaps a good dose of both Milton Friedman and Heilbronner for both sides of the early modern market theories.

You're largely spouting the neocon pundits' line without showing any appreciation of or understanding of the principles they profess to espouse. A more nuanced view would show that they are spinning like crazy to make the world's current situation fit their politics, rather than arguing real economics.
