I am merely pointing out what you said. That is not attacking.

The shopaholic defense

As weak as the twinkie defense. But almost worth it for a slap on the wrist.

CHICAGO - A former Andersen Consulting employee who claimed a “shopaholic defense” in stealing from the company is getting five years probation.

Elizabeth Roach says chronic depression led to wild shopping sprees that she financed with money she stole from work. She was accused of taking $250,000 from Andersen Consulting.

In 2001, she was placed on probation. But prosecutors challenged that sentence and an appeals court ordered her to serve at least a year in prison.

Rt, spanky and I were finalizing membership to the new exclusive board. When we got to you the convo reminded me of a Sopranos episode.

The one where Tony and Silvio were discussing Richie and Sil said "I can't see any reason for keeping him around anymore."

I think this is an excellent location for random news stories. Stories are like books. We can discuss the stories posted here, kind of like a book club for people with limited time to read.

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise, in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa, officials said.

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

"It is incredible. A less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a 'mother'," ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park, told AFP.

"After it was swept and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together," the ecologist added.

"The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it follows its mother. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother," Kahumbu added.

"The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years," he explained.

Isn't that the original purpose?

In other news - turd blossom is offensive. Who knew?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - About a dozen newspapers have objected to use of toilet humor in Tuesday's and Wednesday's "Doonesbury" comic strip, and some either pulled or edited the strip.

Universal Press Syndicate, which distributes the strip to around 1,400 newspapers, said it had received some complaints from editors about a reference to presidential aide Karl Rove.

In the strip, a caricature of President Bush refers to Rove as "turd blossom."

Hank, you know that I love you, like the sweet lonely labrador retriever that I almost adopted from death row at the pound years back but ultimately rejected for another lab, but seriously, jealously does not become you. Look on the bright side, you still have Shifter!

Legal news and discussion is its original purpose here (though I think it was a general discussion forum at the I-word site). And this story is not new. That comic strip ran (or didn't, as the case may be) like 2 or 3 weeks ago.

*Gasp* it was!! The media has been doing a lot of this recently. I just recently found out again that Demi and Ashton are trying to have a baby. Mainly because, in theory, she miscarried the first.
