When you really care, you put someone like this in charge:
  • The federal official in charge of the bungled New Orleans rescue was fired from his last private-sector job overseeing horse shows. And before joining the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a deputy director in 2001, GOP activist Mike Brown had no significant experience that would have qualified him for the position. The Oklahoman got the job through an old college friend who at the time was heading up FEMA....

I look at FEMA and I shake my head,'' said a furious Gov. Mitt Romney yesterday, calling the responsean embarrassment.''... Brown - formerly an estates and family lawyer - this week has has made several shocking public admissions, including interviews where he suggested FEMA was unaware of the misery and desperation of refugees stranded at the New Orleans convention center.

Before joining the Bush administration in 2001, Brown spent 11 years as the commissioner of judges and stewards for the International Arabian Horse Association, a breeders' and horse-show organization based in Colorado. We do disciplinary actions, certification of (show trial) judges. We hold classes to train people to become judges and stewards. And we keep records,'' explained a spokeswoman for the IAHA commissioner's office. This was his full-time job . . . for 11 years,'' she added.

Brown was forced out of the position after a spate of lawsuits over alleged supervision failures. ``He was asked to resign,'' Bill Pennington, president of the IAHA at the time, confirmed last night....

Boston Herald
Penske:
lots of pretty maps with colors- and 1 serious point- The President had advised getting the city as empty as possible 2 days before Katrina struck. the Mayor left buses empty and then flooded.

Penske's score- looks like the City fucked up. Point delivered with side order of insanity, but delivered.

Ty:
Boston hate diatribe listing the qualifications of a man, yet proven to have done no wrong, to make the point that the man the Boston paper wishes to defame as being at fault, lacks qualifications to do some job that the paper doesn't define.

Ty's score:
0
What did the guy fail to do? What could a more"qualified" man have done? It sems to me you and your hate rag have just pinned a huge bunch of suffering on a man's doorstep w/o saying why it goes to him.

I mean, what if his last job was Amway door-to-door salesman? Does that mean he screwed up? what are the Mayor's prior qualfications to run a big city?

Interviews I've seen have said once the city was flooded, and (remember this part ty?) still largely occupied, things were fucked.
I saw a really qualified man explain that since so many people were trapped in their homes, the first response needed to be having boats circulate to pick up people. But the problem was all boats near the city were ruined , and there was no local port to get them in. So boats had to be dropped several hours away.

Again the boats being needed as an initial step, was because the city was left occupied.

So Penske wins this one on colorful presentation, as usual, but also gets a rare win over Ty on substance. Ty. best to keep to your blog evidence to theroies that can't be so easily destroyed.
