Let's begin by firing all the press secretaries. They're a waste of money whose only job is manipulating the media - can't the politicians do that on their own time? It doesn't sound like government business to me.

Can anyone figure out who the first President was to use a press secretary?

One of the more interesting things in Dc is at the Nat'l Archives. There is the draft of the Bill of Rights, which includes those that were not approved. I think there were actually around 14 or 15. The only one I remember is that there was a proposal for an "amount in controvery" requirement for Sup. Ct.

I think your sarcasm alert is a bit off.

I just picked up and I'm about half way through a book I think you'd find interesting:

Moral Politics : How Liberals and Conservatives Think by George Lakoff

The author is self-admittedly a liberal, but the book is really an academic discussion and the author attempts with fair success to keep the rhetoric low, at least so far, when he's defining the issues. Lakoff's theory is that conservatives and liberals simply have fundamentally different world views (and that these world views relate to how conservatives and liberals view family structures).

It's not a light read, but I think you'd find it rewarding.

I'm almost done with The World Is Flat. I'm interested to hear Spank's views on that one. Seems like something he should like. I tend to agree with many of Friedman's long-term global views. And I like his early corporate case studies.
