My head says Mad Max but my heart wants Blade Runner - at least they had those cool flying cars.
The Handmaid's Tale.

  • "State taxpayers should not be required to subsidize activities they believe are immoral or unethical, relating to contraceptives or abortions," said Larry Weber, executive director of the state Catholic Conference.

Yeah, like funding for the death penalty, or funding for enforcing drug laws, or funding for incentives for sports teams to relocate to a city.

No, no no - read the quote. You can only refuse to pay taxes to subsidize immoral activities relating to contraceptives or abortions. I mean, where would we be if we could all decide that we weren't going to pay taxes because we thought starting pre-emptive wars with countries that never attacked us and generally bombing the shit out of innocent people in the process was immoral?

Maybe we should take a vote to see if most people believe this. Oh yeah, we did. You lost.

Well, the good news is, in Missouri, there are going to be a shitload more people to vote in the coming years.

Just in case anyone cares, the Governor of Idaho, Dirk Kempthorne, has been named Secretary of Interior (pending Senate confirmation, which I'm sure will be grueling...).

I believe the populace of Idaho can mostly be heard to reply, "nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, good bye."

Why do you suppose someone would trade being the governor of a state for being one of the more insignificant cabinet secretaries?

Because his term is up this year and there is no way he'd be re-elected; he was the Idaho Senator for a couple terms and seemed to love that taste of power in D.C. enough. And it can increase the consulting fees he can charge once he's out of office.

Because it's an even more insignificant state?

I have no fucking idea -- AT ALL -- what the fuck "Secretary of Interior" even means. There. I feel so much better.

"If you hand out contraception to single women, we're saying promiscuity is OK as a state, and I am not in support of that..."

*sigh* Whenever I'm reading quotes like these I always cringe, knowing full well the next clause will have an "R" with a dash next to it. What's with my Republican boyz? Don't you likah the sex?
