Maybe we should save this one for Rove?

As an alternative, when you're sick of that one:
Ding-dong, the witch is dead!
Which old witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead.
Wake up, you sleepyhead,
Rub your eyes, get out of bed,
Wake up the wicked witch is dead!
Going where the goblins go
Below - below - BELOW
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out!
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high (sing it low)
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead !

I think she's the twit Congresswoman who apparently assaulted a US Capitol Police Officer recently.
Yeah, she should go. Her sins of idiocy sound pretty equivalent to those of DeLay.

Oh yeah. Her. I thought he was talking about Cindy Sheehan. I'm sure it's the fault of the liberal media that her sins have not been as widely reported as those of Tom DeLay or even Duke Cuttingham.
But I'm in a good mood today, so I've got no problems not kick her out? She sounds like a real moron.
Though, to be fair, I wasn't too pleased with concert security people when they confiscated my pen the other day. I imagine that the Congressional police are even more of a pain in the ass to deal with than some $5 an hour Clear Channel security guard.

ummm, no.
only Republicans step down when compromised. Dems make the country fight through impeachment proceedings then all vote to cover each other's backs.

You're right, Hank. DeLay's doing the Right Thing, and is emblematic of today's GOP. Let's see the rundown, from Wonkette:
- Our deepest condolences to Tom DeLay, who ended the portion of his political career that relied on convincing people to vote for him in order to embark on that much more lucrative portion in which he just makes a shitload of money and exercises roughly the same amount of power and influence (depending, of course, on his legal situation — but we don’t think a little jail time will really stop the checks from flowing in for work in defense of Christianity).
Yeah, we’ll miss the old bastard — he knew how to be a majority leader, dammit. It’s about taking the R.J. Reynolds corporate jet to your arraignment and not giving a shit, not being famous for your goddamn tan like some dimestore George Hamilton. It’s about multiple admonishments from the House ethics committee, comparing yourself to Jesus, flashing a shit-eating grin in your mugshot, money-laundering, calling for violent retribution against activist judges, and contacting six federal agencies to trail Texas Democrats! Boehner — you have some mighty big shoes to fill. And Tom — we’ll miss you. We hope you keep up the shamelessness, wherever you end up.
Quote:
Asked if he had done anything illegal or unethical in public office, DeLay replied curtly, “No.” Asked if he’d done anything immoral, he said with a laugh, “We’re all sinners.”
|
Oh, we could parse that “we” (Republicans? Congressmen? House Majority Leaders? Texans? Members of the DeLay family?), but we’d rather just accept it in the spirit in which it was offered. Tom, from those of us equally proud of being sinners, we thank you. While you were running things around here we laughed a little, we cried a little, and we learned a lot.
So hug 'em tight, Hank. From now on, we'll only see glimpses of our hero Tom as he goes deep, deep, DEEP undercover when he's not fighting to stay out of prison, and all we'll have to remember him by is the GOP votes of support to keep DeLay in his leadership position even when under indictment.

Please. He resigned to avoid the shame of losing the election. If it was a matter of principle (like you suggest), he would have stepped down when indicted.

I'm (honestly) not understanding why he isn't serving out his term, unless there is something that is going to come out, or I missed it but there was a petition or something that 80% of the people in his district signed, asking him to step down. He won the R primary (and pretty handily, I think), so it doesn't seem like his constituents think he's THAT bad for the district . . .
Stepping down just seems whiny.

I love this:

she said "This whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female black congresswoman."

. . . who happened to walk around the xray machine and then refused to stop when ordered to do so by a security guard.

Does the governor get to appoint a replacement, or does it create an early special election?
If not, I agree it's bizarre (unless the party told him to leave now, so he's not an issue for the election this fall, which it could be if he's still around)

His announcement is that he'll be stepping down in a few months. I suspect this has everything to do with keeping the seat Republican, and that there will be some interesting jockeying to fill his spot on the ticket. He's a conniving son of a bitch even in death - got to admire that.
