I just had that feeling last year...I think b/c they weren't dominant, but were solid...and lucky. And that luck rolled into confidence, which made them think they could win every game. I thought they could win every game.

I don't know how many titles the Yankees have won in your lifetime, but last year was my first, and it was just...amazing. The feeling really hasn't gone away yet.

This year, they were expected to be great. Adding Thome and keeping their starting pitching from 2005 should have made them great. Unfortunately, from year to year, bullpens are never consistent. I don't know what happened to their starting pitching.

The one real reason the Sox won't make the playoffs is Mark Buehrle. And I hate to say that b/c I love that guy. He's funny and doesn't take himself very seriously, and he has been a consistently good* (not great) pitcher his entire career. If he pitched this year like he has for the past 5 years, we'd be in the playoffs.

*even with his 12-13 record this year, he still has a career W/L of 97-66.
I thought you guys would win the division easily early in the season. I thought Detroit was a fluke and would come back down to earth. They did, but Chicago wasn't there when it happened. I think once Contreras' streak was stopped, the magic was over.

Thome is great, but the guy strikes out way too much. And last year your starting pitching and bullpen all came together perfectly. Hard to do that two years in a row. But that just means next year will be a big year for you.

As for the Yankees, '96 was absolutely amazing. None of these other championships has even come close. I still remember it better than any of the others.

Being a Yankees fan is great because our owner is committed to doing whatever it takes. But that also means that losing hurts way more than winning feels good. The Yankees damn well better make the playoffs. That is the absolute bare bones minimum. And I'm reasonable. So many people here think the season is a complete failure if we don't win The Series. I've sat at games where Jeter has been booed. Hell, they even booed Mariano a few times. Unbelievable. This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately town.

I'll tell you this, though: If ARod doesn't have a huge October, he's going to wish we traded him. I haven't seen someone this hated since Charles Smith.
