We all owe a big "thank you" to Denny Hastert and the Republican congressional leadership for giving us this opportunity to get these nuances right.
If it comes out that the Dem leadership sat on this story for months, and rather than "protect the innocent children" from this creep, they held it back for an October surprise, what then - eh?

I can't imagine having a torture advocate as a law school professor.
I cannot imagine a law school professor that isn't a borderline communist and/or terrorist sympathizer. Go figure.

That would be weird. Especially if they, like, discussed it in class, or had a panel come in and discuss which kinds of torture and what extent of torture is OK and stuff.

I be shocked if we don't have a few more suprises in store for the rest of the month, on both sides. It's only the 4th.

But it would be totally cool if he waterboarded the gunners. Not to get any information or anything; just to make 'em shut the fuck up. I think it would be effective.

Did you just read that Gateway Pundit post, or did you bother to read any of the stuff he links to as support? (It's not as much work as it appears, since he links to the same couple of pages over and over and over.) Do you have any reason to believe that the Democratic leadership knew about Foley in advance of ABC's story?

My Dad just called me and said Charlie Rose is interviewing Bob Woodward on TV right now. Maybe I will catch it tonight.

Dude, you did see that that story also suggests that some nefarious person with access to Foley's screen name and password set him up?

Also, I would think that posting all sorts of things on one's blog about Foley being a closted hypocrite who likes to date boys half his age (uh, he's 52, not 32) isn't consistent with sitting on the story of his email/IM indiscretions with congressional pages.

If I were you, I'd avoid politics and bask in the glow of postseason joy. I'm guessing that my Yankee Schadenfreude Haiku posts will be few and far between.

That link talks about "radical gay activists," not "the Dem leadership."

One and the same?

Knew he was gay or knew he was emailing pages?

From what I've seen, it looks like everyone but his mother and the voters in his district knew or suspected that he was gay. Christ, he apparently had a press conference to say "I'm Not Gay" when he was campaigning for the senate a few years ago.

We shall indeed see. But if Nancy Pelosi knew, how does that change anything? Participating in a bipartisan congressional cover-up is OK, but once you leak it, you're evil?

What about motorists being arrested just because they're black?

We don't know enough of the facts to know whether it was a throw-away comment or issued threateningly. And it wouldn't surprise me if it was the former. And I'm all for more liberal requirements for wrongful arrest. But I'm not sure this one deserves a whole lot more attention than any of the other ones. Is the harm somehow greater here?

I'm starting to like the idea of a political death pool more and more -- sounds like you may have some D candidates. We'll see what happens, but I'm liking my odds these days.

That is odd. Typically they have been field operation cutting out their tongues, then impressing them into the army. How do you think the army has been meeting its recruiting goals? shhhh- pass it on. Tomorrow I'll explain why the stock market is up.
