I have watched two episodes. I don't think it's funny at all. But man, I want to like it.

Stories about cable
The "stupid" or "silly" or "arguably funny" part of the story is in the third paragraph. [Disclaimer: This is not an "I think I am hot" story.*]

I never had cable as a child, and actually was only allowed to watch 7 hours of TV per week when I lived with my parents. During college we didn't have a TV until my senior year, but I rarely watched it. I have no idea if we had cable, but probably not. During law school my older sister and I lived together and like magic WE HAD CABLE when we plugged in our TV. We basked in the fantasticness of all things cable. We especially enjoyed dating shows like Buzz! and whatever that one with Jenny McCarthy was called.

Anyway, fast forward about 8 months and one day WE HAVE NO CABLE. It was just static. My sister calls the cable company LIVID that they have "taken our cable away for no reason." The cable company pointed out that far from taking away our cable, since we never paid for cable, they actually had given us 8 months of FREE cable and now realized their mistake so cut it off. Somehow** my sister got the cable turned back on and we got a full year free before we had to pay. Yay!

*For the record, I DO think I am hot. In fact, I am often inappropriately sweaty.

**My sister is pretty hot. She is not married to a banker though. I think she got the cable back by having phone sex with the cable operator.

wasn't sesame St. originally developed as an early education program for inner city urban children?

That I found surprising since it morphed into such a suburban phenonmenon.
I do no jumping off re Sesame Street. I fucking hated - and I mean REALLY fucking hated - that show. I also hated the Muppets. I don't dislike the puppetering, as my signature line attests, but I just could never stomach that shit as a child. The worst moments of my early childhood were when some do-gooder relative would force me to watch that crap. Three thumbs down.

Is she still in the room? If so, I think I'd be okay with that.

I wonder if the cable company thought that after only eight months you might not be sufficiently hooked, but that after twenty months you would have no choice but to fork over $$$$.

Or, perhaps it was the phone sex thing.

I want to like it as well. Alec Baldwin helps too. I've always found Tracy Morgan a mixed bag between witty one liners and cheesy slapstick. No change here.

The only reason I posted that story was to remind you to ask about 30 Rock.

You're welcome.

I didn't get cable until I moved into the first apartment which had me as a leaseholder in 1995. My music video experience was limited to Friday Night Videos, which were very fuzzy so they must have been on one of the UHF stations.
Friday Night Videos were on NBC, weren't they? I could only watch if I slept over my friend's house (with parents who actually let him have a tv in his room*). We'd stay up hoping for a Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, The Pointer Sisters or Weird Al video and would invariably end up having to watch 99 Luftballoons or some other 80s crap.

It's a good thing we could just amuse ourselves crank calling every cute girl in junior high school with a phone in their room (read: Dina, Deborah, Gina, Sarah** and Jennifer) . I don't know who was dumber...us, because it was so obvious it was us or them, for staying on for the whole call and then cranking us back with one of their friends on three-way after we hung up because we couldn't think of anything else to say in a deep, raspy voice.

*A big one, with cable!
**The hottest junior high school girl ever. She wore just long underwear to school one day. Skin tight. Blew everyone's minds.

Well, some people like Tracy, and some don't. And I can understand why some don't. I can't really explain why I find him funny, but I always have.

Two-Fer is funny (not the character, the joke). And Baldwin is pretty good. And you either got the "Lemon Party" joke, or you didn't.

*And I know you mean Rockit, not some legitimate music by Herbie Hancock.

I think there's too much talent there. It's like two hot people having a really ugly child. Sometimes, the weight of the parts crumbles the whole.

How deep of me.
