Most important meal of the day

I love that movie, but, unlike the train scene in Trading Places, the restaurant scene with the burger animation, actually detracts from the brilliance of the picture.

Given the prior posts of the week, would it surprise you to know that I think the burger scene is the key to the whole film? Plus, it introduced the heavier VH tune to a whole new set of listeners.

My favorite quotes of the day:

"higher third-quarter profit on strong sales of electronic and information systems for both military and civilian use..."

"benefiting from extra funding for military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan..."

Well, yes. But only because I don't remember the song being played. And whenever it's on I either fast forward that part or change the channel.

For those liking consulting-speak (hi RP!), there's an entertaining article in today's Wall St. J. about bringing such speak home to children. Example: "Licking your plate isn't adding value."

I'd link, but those capitalist pigs require a paid subscription.

By the way, how rude of us all not to ask how your trip this weekend went.
Yes, how rude of you not to remind me of my devastation. That said, some parts were excellent - the 50 yd line Club Level seats that I could never hope to own in this lifetime, the wonderful bottle of Pinot Noir at Salty's and a free first class upgrade from Alaska Airlines with free wine and hot nuts the whole way back.

So I'm on this Pynchon-related listserv, and I just got an e-mail from "Henry Winkler" titled "Richard Ford pwned by Michiko K[akutani]." This amuses me greatly. Hell, maybe it is the Henry Winkler.

What wine did they pair with the hot nuts? Hopefully not a syrah.

This is an e-mail that could only greatly amuse someone who is on a Pynchon-related listserv.

Is this post intended to be humorous? If so, please explain the basis for the post's allegedly humorous effect.
