Perhaps too much Syrah at lunch.
I was going to the mid-afternoon wine tasting at Pike and Western

You don't find that you lose too much time cutting lines on the aid station tables?

True story: after reading something in a mid-70s Runners World (hi Coltrane!), my dad drank beer during a marathon once. I think he ran 3:30-ish, fueled by Blitz Weinhardt.

Three seems like a lot. My personal theory on bonking is that you are better off eating well the day or two before the run/race, and going minimal on the gels during.

Our Marathon isn't until January. We'll see what happens.

You are such a rookie. Pack it in a few straws that you can put inside your waist band. You can pull one of those bad boys out, up your nose, tip your head back, and bang -- you're all set and you've barely broken stride.

Has she tried Shot Bloks instead of GU?

My stomach is usually a bit upset for a while after I finish a long run. Carbonated mineral water often helps.

The endurance formula is basically for ultramarathoners. Propel is sort of Gatorade Lite, and I will pick up one of those on a long ride of Gatorade is getting too syrupy for me. I like Shot Bloks a lot, but they are too hard to maneuver during a mountain bike race. Good for road rides.
They were handing out the endurance formula at the race on Sunday. I almost choked (seriously). It was like eating cream of mushroom soup directly from the can.

2. I don't think they're necessary for any runs under 16, if they're necessary at all.

It definitely helps my stomach after a race. Or at least I've convinced myself it does.

work late on the days she does a long run. it might help her nausea, but will definitely
stop you being bothered by it.

I ran 1 marathon, ever. I bet my experience is closer to Ty's wife's than is Coltrane's (real experience) or Penske's (imaginary experience).

If you are not running to break some scary time I don't think you need supplements. drinmk water, maybe a few gatorades or whatever the aid station is giving- that's it. the supplements can screw you up and she doesn't really need then if she is simply trying to finish her 1st marathon.

Are everyone's avatars suddenly much bigger, or am I just hallucinating or something?

I actually agree with this. Although I suppose gels can have a mental or placebo effect on runners.

Then again, I will usually run a half marathon w/out taking very much water at all. Hydrate before. Hydrate after.

It's the vicodin.

Anyone want some? Holy shit did that fuck me up. In a bad way. I apparently spoke with a client. I barely remember it - I'm pretty sure I sounded insane.
