I'd say it was Freudian, but there's just no way that was subconscious.

Interesting. I love chocolate oranges. Two flavors that work perfectly together for me.

White Foods

I'm a little late, but I have to defend Sebby, and everyone I know knows I have been saying this for years:

Rice is not food - it holds food up. Pasta is not food - it holds food up. Bread is not food - it is a butter delivery system. Potatoes are not food - they substitute in countries where nothing else grows well. Similarly, polenta, taro, poi and couscous are not food.

There is a reason why these starches are abandoned by their traditional eaters the moment those people get enough money to afford something else - because the shit is bland and tasteless. It is cheap filler. There are whole dietary theories based on the idea of "Don't eat white foods, eat color" because the shit has no nutritional value.

Why do you think the height of the average Japanese male has risen by 5 inches since WWII? More fish, more meat, more dairy, more veggies, and less rice. When I attended a Chinese wedding, nobody except the whiteys at my English speaking table touched the rice (which was still in the rice cooker, sitting on a folding chair in the corner with Baby) because - as it was explained to a particularly dense white chick at my table - "Why would anyone fill up on the rice when there [were so many other Chinese delicacies] being served?"

No, no, no, a ho ho is an inferior cake and an inferior coating and an inferior creme filler. It barely tastes like chocolate. I recall that it tastes more like plastic.

3. If bread is the highlight of the dining, you're getting robbed.

4. Agreed on the pizza thing.

ETA: Sounds to me like you can't handle your MSG. Pansy.
Why is no one talking about brown rice? Good for you, more flavor, just yummy.

And the goodness in pizza rests in getting precisely the perfect combo of a yummy crust with all the stuff on top, in each and every bite, best saved for last.

I have lost a ginormous amount of weight cutting out pasta, bread and rice. I still have brown rice on occasion or whole grain pilaf type stuff as a taste....but the salmon, seafood, chicken, beef, tofu, wheat gluten all that is what makes you leaner.

On a non-chocolate note, I don't particularly like celery where I can taste it. In salads that really need it I chop it fine. BUT you really can't make stock or stuffing or anything else that relies on a mirepoix (classic = onion, carrot, celery) without it. Sorry, that's a bit foodie for the FB proper.

And parsley? There are two very different kinds. The curly leaf variety is only ever to be used as a garnish. The flat-leaf variety is a necessary ingredient of many Mediterranean dishes, including my favorite curried couscous salad. Yum.

No fruit with chocolate, and no fruit with meat. And for God's sake, someone please kill the people who make raspberry vinaigrette or throw oranges in salads.

I had to Google that, and this is what I got:

"A poutaine is similar to 'wet fries.' You get a pile of fries served in a cup, covered with thin gravy and crumbled up white cheese."

Assuming that is the case, I certainly would not pass on the lobster, the foie gras, or the truffled moose in its stead.

I've been off the white food as much as the next guy, and for months. But it is really hard to maintain.

The pasta starts to seem like it would be sooooooo good, and when bread comes out hot, eventually you just have to break down. And the thing i found about the weight loss from no "white food" is it really is illusionary. It goes away really quick once you do have a pasta dish or a sandwich or whatever.

sorry PPNYC

Different Hostesses (hostii?).

Hostess in the U.S. is owned by interstate bakeries (about them!)
