The pasta starts to seem like it would be sooooooo good, and when bread comes out hot, eventually you just have to break down. And the thing i found about the weight loss from no "white food" is it really is illusionary. It goes away really quick once you do have a pasta dish or a sandwich or whatever.

sorry PPNYC
There is a difference between "white food," which is bland and overprocessed -- Wonder Bread is a prime example, and starches that have not had the crap processed out of them. Wild rice is a good example. And so long as you have these starches as SIDE DISHES, there is nothing wrong with them. At least as far as I am concerned. I've eaten them all my life and never been overweight.

How crass. We use the term "TCB" in polite company.

Thanksgiving is a tough time for me. I don't like cranberry sauce or dry turkey. I have to rush in fast and get all the dark, juicy meat I can. If there's a guest who enjoys dark meat in the crowd and he beats me to it, I subsist largely on Grey Goose, champagne and shrimp cocktail.
As I have mentioned on the food board several times, brining your turkey (along with starting it out in the oven with the breast side down) means none of it is dry.

I read here once that there is another option, which involves continuing to eat a healthy mix of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, but in lesser portions. I believe it was suggested that this weight loss approach could be supplemented with an increase in exercise. It sounds like poppycock to me, but who knows exactly what fad diet will work for you, and if you have a hard time giving up the mashed potatoes completely, this might be the right fix.

2. I wouldn't want to live in a world where I couldn't enjoy your home-cooked sushi when I am in Minnesota.

On its best day, flavored with the finest ingredients on the planet, the white part of the turkey is a boring food. White turkey's a filler meat - unoffensive, bland, a perfect gravy delivery system. I eat turkey about four days a week, in salads and sandwiches (yes, I eat bread on those). It's the last meat I look forward to as some sort of delicacy. Turkey's chicken with a triptophan hit in it. I like it just fine, but I ain't getting excited about it.

Have you had deep-fried turkey? Not bland. Not dry. Outstanding. Much more moist than paigow's sandy vagina.

Horrible for you, but outstanding.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't like fried chicken or fried foods in general. Or sandy vaginas.

I think it's actually not that bad for you, if you don't eat the skin and if it was cooked at the right temperature (so the oil didn't soak in). Just be sure to recycle your used cooking oil (yay biodiesel!).

Little Debbie makes the best cakes.
First, they are super super sweet. Second they are sold in single serving packages for (still) 25 cents each so that even a poor kid can afford them.

Did you measure thickness of coating?* Because that's highly relevant to which tastes better.

I never knew that the Twinkie was not vegetarian and contained beef fat.

A quite complex beast, the Twinkie:

Enriched Wheat Flour - enriched with ferrous sulphate (iron), B vitamins (niacin, thiamine mononitrate [B1], ribofavin [B12] and folic acid).
Sugar
Corn syrup
Water
High fructose corn syrup
Vegetable and/or animal shortening - containing one or more of partially hydrogenated soybean, cottonseed or canola oil, and beef fat.
Dextrose
Whole eggs
Modified corn starch
Cellulose gum
Whey
Leavenings (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, monocalcium phosphate)
Salt
Cornstarch
Corn flour
Corn syrup solids
Mono and diglycerides
Soy lecithin
Polysorbate 60
Dextrin
Calcium caseinate
Sodium stearol lactylate
Wheat gluten
Calcium sulphate
Natural and artificial flavours
Caramel colour
Sorbic acid (to retain freshness)
Colour added (yellow 5, red 40)

I went to a nutritional workshop a few months ago and the dietician said that pretty much the no-carbing generally results in wonderful, almost immediate results that go away pretty quickly if not maintained religiously. Pretty much no one can maintain the no-carb thing.

I've lost a LOT of weight without having to give up anything. I just eat less and exercise more. I'm a lot happier and feel a lot less guilty because I can eat the occassional pasta and rice and potatoes and bread.
