Good toro is a feast for the taste buds, in my opinion. Bad toro is just a sad state of affairs. But good toro sashimi on its own and sometimes paired with a little uni is very very good.

We have a place that we go to here that has good Toro all the time* and (I kid you not) Super Extra Special Yummy Toro only a few times per year. The Super Extra Special Yummy Toro is perhaps the best thing I have ever eaten. I hate you all for making me crave this right now.

Fuck all you people. I was going to be healthy today, eat a big salad and some fruit at lunch. And now I need sushi. Which is not un-healthy, but still.

Yesterday, cheesesteak, today, sushi.

My wife and I sit at the bar a lot and ask the shef about the specials. The guy in my area is really nice and lets me know when they have the salmon belly. Try that. It is the salmon version of Toro. Melts in your mouth.

I tried salmon skin rolls sounds gross but it was actually good. Soba NIppon was good also. There is a rest. in the Waldorf that is supposed to be good.

Katsu-ya. The one on sushi row in Studio City (not the uber trendy Phillippe Stark decor one in Brentwood that has/is going to open up and quite possibly ruin a good thing at the Studio City place too). The Studio City one is in a strip mall, with cheap decor and the best sushi I have ever eaten.

Okay, so Gwinky and Paisley are coming to my house for a chocolate orgy, 70% only.

Paisley, I disagree with you on the Scharffenberger. I had heard good things about it from folks like you, but then I bought about six different kinds of 70% chocolate at my local gourmet grocer and did a side-by-side tasting. Next to the various varieties of Valrhona, etc., the Scharffenberger was nasty.

And I remembered the one kind of fruit I will do with chocolate: bananas. But only in banana splits or in this really killer chocolate chunk banana bread pudding I made one time.

And last, I am the person who won't eat the chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. Walnuts are the only kind of nuts I don't absolutely adore--they're almost as bad as the chocolate oranges when it comes to abomination. Chocolate chip cookies are much better with toasted pecans. Mmmmmmm.

eta that milk chocolate goes along with underbaked cookies in defining American "taste." Too sweet, no oomph.

The style is very adult (for lack of a better word) - herbs and such - not super sweet. It's wonderful.

I feel the exact same way about Tomoe sushi here in New York. Non-descript, hole-in-the-wall. Best sushi (and possibly, food) I've ever had.

Please. Yellowtail is good. How could it be any more for rookies than salmon or tuna? I judge a sushi place on how good their yellowtail is because I likes that shit. And I'm no simple-minded newb...er, I'm no newber.
