How is that ergonomic?

it's not but it was in my sundry list of things to request. I don't like roller ball....it should be standard.
I don't like the Logix ergo mouse. ewww.

Hong Kong market is always fun for foods you've never seen before and sorta hope you never see again.

I had an ergonomics evaluation on my 2nd day at this job. Then they set up my workstation in the most ergonomically friendly way that they could, even including giving me the mouse platform on the left-hand side. I felt very special. I highly recommend. They'll also tell you, for example, if you are looking up too much or down too much when you look at your monitor.
Is having a dedicated ergonomics person a California thing or a massively big firm thing? It was not a designated position at my (smaller, but not small) Texas firm.

Perhaps you've lost too much weight.

It is on a firm by firm basis. At one large NY firm I had an ergonomist specialist come in to evaluate my workspace...but here I did not.

I will try to remember to ask the Ergonomics Person when I see her tomorrow.

Um, how are you still such an idiot? Even engineers I work with seem to comprehend that different states have different rules on stuff like this. So it's not the no-law-degree issue.

Cheese curds are great -- we used to make a special trip to go get good ones. Little Miss Muffet also used to like her curds.
People were talking about poutine the other day -- poutine is french fries, cheese curds and gravy. Great hangover food.

So is it an OSHA thing or a labor law state by state thing.

Cheese curds are a Wisconsin staple food. I had my very first fresh cheese curds a few years ago. They are supposed to squeek when you bite them or they are not truly fresh. Very yummy. But I'm a big fan of the cheese products (which is why Mr. Man's family seems to like me a lot). Don't say bad stuff about cheese around Cheese Heads. None of this "white food" bullshit.* Dare I say that cheese curds are a delicacy in Wisconsin?
*I realize that only some cheeses are white, but if they are thrown into that whole white food thing, beware!

Definitely not the latter. Isn't California particularly rigorous on this stuff? Like European rigorous? (And when do you get the 4 weeks vacation in August with the paid massages?)
It never ceases to amaze me how big firms are cheap about this stuff. Mice and keyboards break all the time (hello, diet coke). So they have to buy them anyway. Would it hurt to provide everyone with 3-4 options that are reasonably priced and let them choose which one is most comfortable? Same for mice? JFC--the starting salary is $135 k in most big cities, and it goes up over $200k for associates. Yet a $100 keyboard is too much?
ETA: A possibly more hepful response:

You need to save somewhere in order to afford those exorbitant salaries. And, as you say, the things break all the time. If you can't be more careful with your Diet Coke, you don't get $100 toys. Those are the frivolities that bring firms down.
Sorry. I'm a little cranky today.

Who has CRT monitors any more? Other than the ones that still haven't died. Does Dell even sell them, so that they can offer a $29 upgrade to flat panel, while keepign the apparent price low?
What's contentious? That you still don't rate a flat panel?
