This morning, I knew at 30 paces that my boss had on a new tie and that it was Hermes. Do I have a sickness?

It seemed like more people in SF smoke than any other city I can remember.

Were you dueling? If so, are you that bad a shot that he would wear a new tie to a duel with you?

No way man, that means if I lost, I'd be stabbed in the eye with a Fendi cufflink.

You shouldn't admit this. It's embarrassing.

fISH is good for you, the recent mercury poisoning post manfred or whomever posted aside.
Although they say the health benefits of fish overcome any high levels of mercury in fish.

Starbucks Loyalty
So is breaking up with your morning Starbucks store like switching hairdressers? There is one Starbucks I have been going to for close to 3 years or so. It is small and crowded and one of the baristas is a very good person, but moody. She cops a 'tude and is very manic. One day nice, the next day bites my head off. They know my drink and have it for me by the time I pay...
So I've migrated for a month or so to a larger, more anonymous Starbucks. They mess up my drink all the time, but no one cops a 'tude at all. This morning, for reasons beyong my control I had to go back to my old Starbucks like the prodigal daughter. They asked me if I was on vacation, I told them the truth and I think they were miffed. Obviously I could have played it off...but I chose not to. It is a petty thing, but is customer loyalty that important? Should I feel contrite?

These important but painful truths are best communicated in person, not through the email you originally planned. I'm glad you made this difficult choice.

This is what little white lies are for.
Otherwise you will get a 1/2 decaff spit and skim latte.

What are you saying, Gatti that I faced the music, and took the heat like a champ by telling the truth and in person to boot?
Oops I posted simultaneously as Pony. maybe I should have fibbed to prevent spittle.

Mostly, I'm making a joke about your planned email after your near-death experience with the train.
Otherwise, I subscribe to Pony's take. Telling your food preparers that you don't love them no' mo' and are seeing that ho down the street that competes with them -- and continuing to come back on occasion so they can spit in your coffee -- is probably a poor tactical move.

ETA: Fine. I clicked the link and I strongly disagree with this person's hypothesis. My guess is thata bunch of New Yorkers were smoking outside because they have to now (so there appeared to be more of them), as compared with all the Northern Virginia/DC folks who smoke wherever the hell they please. G-ross.

I agree with you 100%. I was recently in Chicago and found that I have grown to love the restriction on smoking in bars. I went out a few times and the smell of smoke sinks in so deep that the coat I was wearing smelled like an ashtray a week later.
It is amazing to me that New York is automatically the model of everything wrong in the world. It's like, if people who lived outside of New York didn't have New York to point to whenever they were mad about anything, they wouldn't know what the fuck to do. Hell, all you have to do is watch Fringey's reaction whenever anyone even mentions New York. "Hate it! Mean people! Don't ever go there! Don't want to!" Etc., ad nauseum.
Frankly, I don't really care. I just don't get why this place is the focus of so many complaints.
