I will probably read Fever Pitch eventually just because I haven't completely given up on him yet, but my hopes are not high.
I liked the first two I read (High Fidelity and About a Boy), and I sort of lost interest in him after How to Be Good (which isn't to say I didn't like it, but I just didn't really feel like picking up the next two). Fever Pitch is sort of different, in that it's autobiographical and historical. I don't know much about soccer at all, much less how the leagues in the UK work, but I thought his writing was engaging enough to catch the gyst of what he was talking about. I also know, to some extent, the agony of being a fan. I think that can be pretty universal, even for the cricket hooligans.

ETA: I really liked the book About A Boy, and I was fairly irritated that the movie didn't live up to the book. It pissed me off significantly that there was no mention of Nirvana at all in the movie version.

I'm not sure I will be able to relate to that since I'm not a sports fan at all. Maybe I will be able to analogize it to rooting for Michael Knight to win Project Runway and then suffering the agony of seeing his actual collection.

Or I can compare it to rooting for Janelle to win TWO seasons of Big Brother and watching her fuck things up in the final 3 two summers in a row.

Maybe I'll read this book after all.

Drogba was offsides, but was not involved in the play, so I think it was a good no-call.

It is amazing to me that New York is automatically the model of everything wrong in the world. It's like, if people who lived outside of New York didn't have New York to point to whenever they were mad about anything, they wouldn't know what the fuck to do. Hell, all you have to do is watch Fringey's reaction whenever anyone even mentions New York. "Hate it! Mean people! Don't ever go there! Don't want to!" Etc., ad nauseum.

Frankly, I don't really care. I just don't get why this place is the focus of so many complaints.

Starbucks is fortunate to hear only the ringing of cash registers.
My god, man. You are a bottomless well of Simpsons references.

And then I took my leftover Halloween candy (full sized Hersheys and M&Ms) to the fire station. The local firefighters were happy to take them off my hands. I made them promise to come extra-quick if I ever really need them.

Oooooh. You are a crafty one, missy. I think my local FD is going to be getting a sa-weet visit from me soon. Do you mind if I forget to mention it was your idea?

I liked that book, and only was sorry that it was over so soon.

That crazy-ass bitch is getting no viewage from me, that's for sure.

It was nice to see one of those on-air reunions where they seemed to have actually missed each other.

So when was Flav's newest offspring conceived, and with whom, NFH?

Yes. Not the first book I'd recommend, but it's not like you have a lot of choices if you want to read about soccer. More here. In this general vein, I would recommend Bill Buford's Among the Thugs, about soccer hooligans, unless you don't want to read about graphic violence.

Do you think they will promise to come extra quick for you? Will their hoses be long enough when you're in need? Are there any other stupid fireman jokes I can make? Am I this bored that I refuse to stop typing? How fast do you think I can type with my penis? How fast do you think you can type with my penis?

I am exhausted.

I don't STP, but wouldn't the coming extra-quick obviate your need for them? Or were you talking about needing them for their professional skills?
