Beer can cause hangovers, as can other alcoholic drinks. For me, beer is a contributing factor, but is not the sole culprit.

I have a needy friend who emails me. One or two token questions about "how are you" and then launches in a monolouge pissing and moaning about her troubled boyfriend who is emotionally damaged and won't commit and has a kid. I offer advice, she ignores and pisses and moans some more. As you can imagine, this gets old. I now cringe when I see her emails in my in box. Am I selfish? do I have the right to just cut her off cold? I am considering thinking about branching out from the one beer I have decided I like (which is served in a Chimay glass) to Chimay, on the theory that if they are served in the same glass, how different can they be?

here's my best, "be shitty to the client" story:

young woman in-house IP counsel is managing a large porfolio of trademark files through mega-firm in the mid-west (not the first one you think of, the other one). I hear about the following because I do the patent work-

her company was spun off from another company. the two companies are fighting over who should pay the mega-firm's bills- she calls the associate she works with to assure him she will make sure bills get paid- even if she pays them and then has to collect from the other company.

Now, bit of background- she uses her ability to direct work to uplift young lawyers since she feels she got shafted in a law firm as a young lawyer (ps fringey you've sent me 0$ of work so far this year- nwtf?).

Anyways, associate says "let me conference in senior partner so he can hear the news"- ring ring- "hello" "hello senior partner this is associate I have young woman IP counsel on the phone."

but see partner hears "she called me" not "she's on the line."

so partner says "tell her she can take her fucking files and shove them up her fucking ass."

so, and here's the cool part, she rolls with that:

"Well partner since they are my files and it is my ass, I'd like to see if we can't work it out some other plan." that is one cool reaction.

they procede to discuss the issue for 15 minutes. then at the end of the call, partner apologizes and, while Woman IP is still on the phone starts yelling at associate and blames him for not making it clearer Woman IP was on the phone.

Funny. she fired the firm for the guy's yelling at the associate, not for the main fuck-up.
