[i]McDonald's more? I would think that they have a decent amount of cash around, etc. Compared, say, to a convenience store.

Because half the stick-up men work there on saturdays

I qualified for Boston on my first marathon. (I was no where near qualifying on the one last year, but that is neither here nor there). I don't think I have EVER run a mile in less than six minutes, nor did I have to to reach my goals.

Well, we're both using anecdotal evidence. I honestly don't know if there is any correlation. However, it seems to me that faster marathoners would generally have correspondingly faster mile times. I have no doubt that there are runners out there who are relatively slow milers compared to their 26.2 times, but I bet that they are the exception.
I missed Boston by 18 seconds my first try.
There is some indication that Yasso 800s might be a predictor of marathon time. The theory is that you should be able to run a marathon in the same time (in hours) that you average for 10x800 meters (in minutes). For example, if you average 2:50 for each 800, you should be able to run near a 2:50 marathon. I believe it has something to do with VO2 Max and lactate threshold. Its use as predictor is debatable, though.

I bet if you took the top 100 marathoners in the world, and had them run a timed mile, there would be almost no correlaton between ranking and finishing time in the mile.
ETA: And if you say it's not fair to limit it to 100, then all you're doing is stating the obvious proposition that some people are fast and some are slow.

I have no idea whether there would be a correlation.
How about we take all marathoners who run b/w a 2:50-3:10 marathon. I would not be surprised to see a correlation with that group.

LONDON - Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd has been stripped of her title after reportedly saying in a magazine interview that she was dating one of the beauty contest judges when she won.
“Following recent claims in the press and magazines and the publicity given on the Playboy Web site for their next issue, we have sadly decided to strip Danielle Lloyd of her title as ‘Miss Great Britain 2006’ effective immediately,” the contest said in a statement on its Web site Thursday. “We are very sad that this action has been necessary and we wish her the best for the future.”
OK, so this woman gives her stats as 32DDx25x35. I don't believe her.

Is the comparison b/t the average mile time of the top 100 marathoners and the average for the 2:50-3:10 set or is the comparison to be among the 2:50-3:10 set (i.e. that the 2:50s will have faster mile times than the 3:10s).
Wouldn't part of Lance's issue with the mile be pacing? If he ran it alone to get that 4:51 time, and it was the first time he'd run a timed mile since (say) high school, it kind of makes sense--especially with his stated expectation of running it in 5:00. If he couldn't do it faster with a proper pacesetter, I would be surprised.

That's because they are too cool for Hoegaarden, but I guarantee they have other white beers. You can get Hoegaarden at several other places around town, including John Collins (I think).

We are starting at Americano at 5:30 to 6:00, but we could move to the Toronado. Realize, however, that there will be no hot women there. It is a beer conniseur bar.

Redneck Designated Driver
How do you know which redneck is the designated driver? She's the only one too young to drink -- or drive.
This family's a case in point. Step dad brings 14 year old daughter to a bar, so she can watch him get hammered and then drive him home.

I hardly know where to begin:
First, finally a good reason to have children.
Second, according to this brilliant journalist, he was accused of driving w/o a license and letting her drive. Which is it (apparently both)? And he was charged with "third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle." What is unaggravated? And what are the other two degrees of driving without a license? Ugly wallet holding your fake? Really bad job hiding your inebriation when coupled with driving on a suspended?
