A while back, Salon's Video Dog posted a Sony Bravia ad featuring a Jose Gonzalez song and thousands of super balls bouncing down the streets of San Francisco. I have a not-quite-3-year-old nephew, who is obsessed with balls. Now whenever he comes to my house (as he did yesterday), we have to watch the ad. He was very cute, sitting in my lap, watching the ad and clutching some small foam balls I keep for him.

This is the only Jose Gonzalez song I know but I like it.

Link to Sony commerical here.

A lot of tattoo shops won't tattoo on the feet.

Bn'B's Rules of Tattoos:

1. You must be absolutely certain of what you want the tattoo to look like. No picking a rose off the tattoo shop wall. Bring in your own art.

2. You must be absolutely certain where you want the tattoo to be on your body. My first was on my left inner ankle, my second on my right shoulder blade, and the last is a tramp stamp. I'm starting to jones for one more, probably on my lower hip.

The ABBA Rule of Tattoos states that if you have more than 3 tattoos you must become a stripper.

Stay tuned to learn where ABBA and I will be dancing next.

etfix terrible spelling/typing
One thing I would recommend against: if you're a little (to moderately) chubby, probably don't get a big-ass tattoo on the back of each of your knees and then wear too-short skirts. This girl that I saw on the street with that particular "look" could not have been more than 20 years old. What an abomination.

On the back of each knee was a big design (maybe a heart?) with a word spelled out on a ribbon that ran through the heart (?) design. I can't remember what the words were, but they were opposites (naughty/nice maybe?).

Egad. It looked so bad. So very, very bad.

Smoking used to seem like a masculine activity. James Dean smoked, so did Marlon Brando. All the tough guys smoked on film. There's a famous wordless scene in Le Cercle Rouge where the two gangsters decide not to come to blows because one offers the other a smoke. Then sometime in the 80s, every bad guy smoked. Think Hans Gruber in Die Hard. Every dirty cop would blow smoke in the face of the guy they were questioning; that's how you knew he was a dirty cop. If the interrogating cop wasn't smoking, and the skel blew smoke in his face, well, that's how you knew the skel had it coming.

Nowadays though, it seems like smoking is more feminine than masculine. I see more women smoke than men. It's rebellious, but not too rebellious. Brings to mind high school girls smoking in the restrooms.

I think the same thing is going on with tattoos. Sailors and soldiers used to get tattoos. Proper ladies wouldn't even be seen with a man who had tattoos, let alone get one themselves. Sure, there's plenty of guys with tattoos. Hell, I live near Haight Street; it's almost a requirement. But now, they sort of seem feminine. When I see guys with those Celtic knots on their upper arm, it seems a bit frilly, even if they're a 300-lb. offensive lineman. A man with a tattoo on the small of his back? NTTAWWT.

Once again, rebellious, but not too rebellious (especially if it can be covered up).
Eh, I'm not really feeling the tats. I think it has blown its load. And being used as a way for middle aged people to try feel edgy and cool...think about it, if 20 year old fatties and middle aged attys are getting them, hasn't it gone the way of the poncho being sold at Sears?

I hate ponchos.

I love Jack's sig line.

Holy Advanced Maternal Age

So this weekend, I find out the age of a neighbor (she and her husband are "older" parents) and it turns out she had her second child when she was 52!!! Does anyone know anyone (personally - not from the Guiness Book of World Records) who was pregnant at that age?!?

I know a bunch of people in their 40's, even several who had kids at 44, but 52?!?

Whoa.

I was at a cocktail soiree of sorts on Friday and chatted up a 70 plus year old who was sort of hot (for 70plus). I didn't get a preggo vibe from her, but I suppose it could be something to shoot for, no pun intended.....I'd need to drink more than I did...

Women with kids in their 50s - no, mid-forties is the highest I've known.

Men with kids on into their 70s - hell ya, happens all the time.

I think Annie Leibowitz had a kid at 50. To blow your mind even further, I believe it was Susan Sontag's.

Wendy Wassertein, the departed playwright, had a baby at 50 something and subsequently kicked the bucket.

That child was a preemie, had health comlications, potential learning disabilities, etc.

Not feeling the very older mom thing.

As for Annie Leibowitz.....ay yi yi she had a photo of her nekkid and preggo. have you ever seen her she has the face of a horse.

I realize. That's why I asked about the woman. Though if you ever knew a pregnant man (at any age), I suppose that might be interesting to hear about.

I didn't ask my neighbor about how it was that she was able to get pregnant in her 50's, but I know it was not a case of surrogacy. I remember at one point she said something about how they didn't think they'd have kids after the first one because they assumed she wouldn't get pregnant. Well, DUH!! Her first child is 12, so that puts her at 47 for the first one - yikes.

You have to try really hard with a woman of that advanced age. It only works in certain positions.

Three posts in short order -- do you think we'll make it to the fourth step?

I'd suggest a pause now and turning to your work for a couple of hours. (And no need to respond to this. You can pm if you think I'm being unchristian. But if I'm going to be your sponsor, expect some tough love.)

I have one on my lower back that also took me five years to follow through on. I have never ever regretted it.

I also really, really like Miami Ink, though I haven't really followed much of it this season. I think Kat, though, is a fantastic artist.

ABBA, a friend of mine has one on her inside wrist that I like a lot, but I think it's all black. Hmm. Never occurred to me that there'd be color issues there. I've seen a lot of phrases lately in very cool fonts, mostly on women, though a couple of men.

Anne, also, my sister has a tattoo on her inner arm, under her tricep. One of the things that she loves about it is that she can look at it every now and then and it makes her happy. Of course, she also has a rule that she'd never work at a place where visible tattoos weren't Ok.
Kat von D is an amazing artist.

I've had the design worked out for two years, just need to settle on a location.

Anyone know of a law firm where visible tattoos are acceptable? Some attorneys here do have (subtle) nose piercings, but the only folks I've seen with visible tattoos work in the Copy Center or the mail room.
